Experienced N2O users inside......

I`ve been told not to rely on my wide-band when on the spray, but to read plugs as a tuning guide. I`ll cut the engine off at different rpm`s and check them that way,but I need to know what I`m looking at.How do you tell if your rich/lean,too much/too little timing etc. etc.? Please be as specific as you can!
Thanks,
Glen

Checking plugs can give you *somewhat* of an idea of how the motor is running, but the only way to REALLY tell is after you are done with the 1/4 pass you shut the motor off and then check the plugs because on your way back to the pits they can change

Are you running a dry kit or a wet kit?

Who told you to not rely on the wideband on the spray?

--As far as plug readings goes.....you want the threads on the plugs to look somewhat moist, not super wet which indicates running rich.

--As far as the porcelin....you want it to have a slight tint of brown or even possibly red if running race gas or octance booster

--The tip of the plug should have some color to it but not silverish at all

LASTLY.....if your threads on your sparkplugs look as dry as a 80 year old woman and seem to have grey *sparkles* on them.....that is pieces of your pistons flaking off from detonation

How's that for a start?

Roc,
I`ll file that in the ol` memory bank. That`s exactly how I was going to get a reading, cut the engine at WOT.How far up the porcelain should the "ring" be,at the base?
A few people on the TurboBuick board including Craig Smith told me about the wide-band. FWIW I`m seeing an average A/F of 12:1,and friends have reported a rich condition from out the tailpipe as I make a pass.
Just installed a 9" converter(drove thru the 10")and new, wider ET Streets.
Heading to the track this Wed. night to test,I`ll look at those plugs then. Appreciate the feedback:hail:
Oh yeah,it`s a wet kit.

I've been using my wideband O2 to tune my nitrous system & it seems to be working well - haven't read the plugs, though, so I'll do that nest time I run. I set the NOS afr to approx 11.8:1 & the N/A afr to approx 12.8:1 with the wide band. The only time the wide band does not work - it reads minimum scale @ WOT - is when I run 100 octane unleaded - other than that, it seems to work fine with 91 octane unleaded.
