carb mods for turbos...i did a search but no luck
I ran a search but wasn't able to find what i was looking for. I am sure it must be posted somewhere so if anyone has the links..
I am at a decision making point in terms of my TT project. The car is carbed right now but i have a TPI system lying around i would like to get on it at some point. I am thinking of doing the project with a carb to begin with for ease of setup and then moving onto the fuel injection when more money comes my way.
What do i need to do to my Holley 4150 750cfm double pumper to make it work correctly for my application. I am looking at around 15lbs of intercooled boost if a carb can support that. Solid floats come to mind but what else? A recommendation on the fuel pump as well so that i do not need to run an auxillary one? or will i have to regardless and where would i run it?
Also, how have all you TT carb guys tuned the carbs? I read an article which said how hard it really was and how carbs and turbos don't really mix.
I was offered a carb hat from a procharger SC kit pretty cheaply if i was to do this instead of the EFI.
Also read that boosted applications don't like dual plane intakes. My intake is a bit of a high riser and probably wouldn't fit under the hood with a carb hat ontop. Victor Junior intake??? I am running a ZZ1 crate motor but will be throwing in some blower pistons so i can save myself the hassle of blowing up the engine.
Sorry about the length...i just have a lot of questions regarding the carb'ed aspect of turbocharging.

yes carbs and turbos work
if you look at this months chevy high performance
on page 24 there is a camaro i did
a 650 dp is better suited to a pressurized
sm blk . as fas as basic mods go , nitro floats
weld up choke rod hole , smaller adjustable rear air bleeds
and basic jetting will get you in the ballpark
fuel system is 150 gph or higher pump with
return style regulator w/ boost reference port
for a 1 lb boost 1 lb fuel rise
this car had a turbonetics carb hat good clearance
but changing to a west coast fab for better air
distribution into carb
any other questions ??

Hey...i got Turbochargers by Hugh MacInnes in the mail and so i am going to really start plowing my way through that book.
But, i do have another question. This is a street car which will sometimes see the strip, maybe once or twice a month. With the carb setup, don't i have to have it running overly rich all the time so that when i hit peak boost i don't lean out? Some people seem to be running an extra set of boost referenced injectors to get the job done.
Is my carburator too big to successfully work? Its a mechanical secondaries double pumper and has no provisions for choke since it is the "performance version" of the original version of this carb.
What fuel pump manufacturer do you suggest or is all that information in the article? What about the boost referenced fuel pressure regulator?
I will run out and try to pick up that magazine as well.
Thanks
