Here is my setup, not for the weak at heart, but I should never need to upgrade again.
From the tank...
-12an to a Weldon filter (100 micron)
Weldon 2035 fuel pump
after pump -10 an to a Paxton fuel filter (10 micron)
-10an ran to the front to a BG Y-block
from the Y-block 2 -8an feed lines to the rails (5/8 MSD rail stock)
2 -8an lines to a Weldon regulator
out of the regulator is -8an all the way back to the tank.

With a setup like this you need a filter before and after the fuel pump. the F/I fuel pump is a pusher pump, and needs a less restrictive filter in front of it (80+ micron). And the filter after the pump is what does all the work to pick up small particles that may harm an injector.

I went with a "non-conventional" way of modifying my fuel tank.
No sump, and no bulkhead at the bottom of the tank. Instead, I installed 90* bulkheads at the top of the tank (a -12 and a -8). I made custom pickup and return tubes, flared the ends, and attached them to the bulkheads at the top of the tank. One feeds the pump, the other s the return.

Good luck with your fuel system!
