Holley Commander 950 vs 7749?
Has anybody out there used the Holley Commander 950 on a spercharger setup or (any setup)? I have the 89 350 w/Miniram and Paxton s/c and do not want to get into burning chips. Is this an easier alternative? Is it a better alternative? Jimmy

The reason I bought it was that I didn't want to go through the hassle of burning chips. I have a similar setup, paxton, miniram, afrs, etc. The only drawback is that you will lose your tcc control since you have an auto. I have a 5spd so that option didn't matter to me. You could always use a stand alone tcc setup like the ones people use when retrofitting a lock up style tranny in an older car.
Tuning wise, it's really a no braiiner. Took about 5 minutes to get it running pretty good and about a week of driving around to fine tune it. If you have someone riding shotgun, it will be a lot easier/faster to tune.

Laptop plugs into the ECM via the serial port. You get a nice readout on the screen of everything going on in the computer/engine, and any changes are done in real time (as you type them). Someone riding shotgun (or you riding shotgun with someone else driving your car) should be considered a necessity (soooooooooo much easier). It includes datalogging software, but it has a pretty clumsy interface IMHO.
It is a very nice system. The things I wish it had but doesn't are:
Fuel pressure sensor/readout
Distributorless ignition
Wideband O2 <-- !!!
Better control over the idle air control valve (though what it has is not bad, I just think I could get my large cam to idle better with a couple extra parameters. )

Thanks but I'm selling all this new stuff and putting on a carb. I don't have near enough time or patience. My new Mini-Ram, Edelbrock 58mm, Paxton s/c and the old TPI setup is now FOR SALE. Bargain if you buy it all.

Car: too many ...
I say just spend the $900 or so dollars for the Commander 950, drive it around for a week letting it tune itself (its really not that hard), and enjoy the benifits of EFI. You went this far. Cant give up now!!

The commander 950 does not support VSS. 90-92 Cars use VSS instead of a cable for the speedo. You might be able to get around this with a converter box and rewiring the VSS straight from the tranny to the guages (skipping the ECM). Not really sure. Call Holley and see what they say.
