Say NO to detonation...

Hauled the power plant from the TTZ28 this week and found a couple of dead cylinders.. #1 and #7 were the unlucky ones in the fight against detonation..

I think I started them on their way last year with the juice and finished them off with the boost this year..

Oh well, this is a good time to get some dished pistons in there to lower compression some more...

Check out the pics here: http://camaro.ath.cx/turbo/dead_pistons/

Cheers,

hey man, sorry to see that,.. i am in the same boat. the # 8 top ring was shattered, and the # 5 piston top edge was cracked off. Anyway, I am trying to decide what to go with to rebuild. I want to reuse my crank and rods and bolts, buy dish pistons and bearings and balance the assembly. I have to go either .040 or .060 over. I want to keep cost a MAJOR factor. I'm thinking the speedPro forged pistons about $40 each. they are bout 8.5:1 copresion w/ 64 cc heads, i have 66cc. What are you doing to rebuild, and what do you other gusy suggest as far as pistons,, Comp ratio, etc... and what ever else i need to do for the rebuild..also ring gap and what not. I want to build it cheap, and only replace what i have to. I am likely doing the final assembly myself. suggestions please. I've never built a motor before, so i want to know exactly what i should have the machine shop do before i assemble it and what parts i need etc. thanks
