supercharged carbed motors
im getting a new 406sb for next year and i want to either run nitrous or a supercharger. it is going to be carburated. how hard would be to supercharge a carb motor. i was looking at the vortex kit in the summet catalog. is this kit any good. what boost can it put out. is it going to be a real pain in the *** to tune. any help would be great. thanks alot

Procharger makes a kit as well as Vortech. I'm not sure which is better though. I'm sure either kit will give you how much boost you want. I'd imagine they'd be a little more difficult to tune than a roots blower, or a supercharger on FI. But I don't know much about carbs anyway. I DO know that the carbs will need to be modified to handle the pressure that they were not meant to experience.

If I were you, I would make the decision before you build the motor, that way you can decide on a compression ratio and camshaft to run. If you decide on nitrous down the road, you can still have a N/A mill with good performance until you slap a nitrous plate on it. With a blower, you are going to be stuck with 9:1 or less until you can afford the kit. There are also a lot of hidden costs on a blowthrough supercharger setup as well.
You will need to buy a pulley, as I don't believe the procharger or vortech kits come with one (they want you to call them and have them customize it to your application).
You will need a pretty kick *** fuel system. Probably will have to sump your stock tank, buy a nice electric fuel pump that can flow some serious fuel and a boost referenced fuel pressure regulator. Also you will need to make a few modifications to your carb. You wont be able to retain your choke on your carb, so if that is something that is important to you that is something to consider (chokes are for the ladies anyways
).
Its up to you, I have been contimplating it for a long time now.

chances are, im not going to go with a supercharger. i think its going to big of a pain. and like someone mentioned, its going to get costly. im not even sure if im going run nitrous. i want to see what the car runs all motor first. if im not happy with it i'll look into nitrous.
