turbo question for a L98

I was wondering if i could use a turbo from say an eclipse or talon on my 350 TPI. I'll eventually be building up an engine set up for most likely a turbo...i know people that deal with these parts so i can get them cheap...also if i can use it is there any way to up to boost on them? thanks!

The turbo in the Eclipse is definitely too small for your 350. Those turbos were designed for small displacement engines (1.9-2.0L on the Eclipse) which is nearly a third the size of your 5.7L L98. Those turbos just won't flow enough air for your engine.

yeah i did a bit of reseach since posting that thread an hour ago...seems like a T3 or T4 is my best bet....or if anyone has so input....i don't wanna break the bank but i don't wanna be super cheap and buy cheap parts...if anyone has suggestions please post them...so for its a 350 block .30 over 4130 forged crank and GM Vortec heads that will be ported and polished...i'm looking for low 12s possibly high 11's...BUT this car will be driven on weekends and stuff like that thanks!

If you're going single turbo those are definitely too small; look for diesel or big truck turbo's. If you're going twin turbo you could use a couple of turbo's off of 85-87 5 speed T-Birds - would still be pretty damn cheap. Depending on how much boost you plan on running you could even skip the intercooler...

Stay away...FAR away from diesel turbos. The exhaust turbine is not properly sized or trimmed for small block gas use.

Hmmmm. I found a guys' web site who put a single diesel turbo on his '86 Mustang. Thing runs 10's. Maybe it's only certain types of diesels? I'll have to look up his site...
