So what's the deal with ATI?
So what's the deal with ATI?
I spent all of yesterday reading some of the horror stories that people have had with the Procharger and it's making me think twice.
I'm going to run it on a carb'd setup, but all the stories I read was with the 12psi pulley, everyone was getting only 4-4.5psi of boost. That's pretty ridiculous.
I know a bunch of you guys have them, what's your take on them? Vortech just came out with a carb enclosure, but I haven't seen any cars with them installed yet, so I'm a little concerned and the fact that it has to be much more expensive.
Thanks.

Just for reference, that guy saying he only sees 4-5lbs from a 12lb setup forgets to mention to everyone,he lives at 5000 feet above sea level, which will do wonders for killing boost. The vortech inclosure is expensive. And IMOP,making carb work with any forced induction is a hassle, you will never get it tuned correctly, better moving up to FI,and then thinking about boosting it,but if you want to keep carb for the simple fact it is alot cheaper than FI,I would definatly look into a nitrous setup,or even better a Roots blower.Much better for a carb motor than a centrifical supercharger or turbo. In my opinion of course.

Procharged89Z you bring up some good points.
Besides, I thought you were running a 300 wet system anyway? Why would you want a blower with that?

3 things I wanted to add:
-I just found out that The Carb Shop makes carb's specifically for centrifugal blowers
-The guy that lives at 5000ft just emailed me and set me straight about the boost issues (basically, I'd be getting A LOT more than him like you said)
-Guido, the 300 shot is for the 383 I'm planning, the procharger is just to play around with on the 350 I have now. I am thinking about just building up the 383 to take a huge boost from the procharger though.

So which way are you leaning to?IMHO,just my suggestion is all,I really like the roots style on a carb motor, look killer, most definatly. Some of the smaller systems are real cheap compared to a Procharger.Everyone says roots run hot ,yes they do,but unlike the Prochargers or comparable turbos,on a roots, the charge, fuel and air is introduced threw the Blower cooling the inherent hot charge roots are known for.If you have ever run either Water or alcohol threw a blower unit(small amounts
)you with your hand on the unit can feel the blower itself cool off, tremendosly.Same applies for the roots.Centrificals on the other hand introduce the fuel after the head unit.In my opinion, centrificals look very awkward on a carb car.And if you want that around town grunt.roots is where it is.My brother has a KB whippple on his 5.0.I ll tell you right now,at 6lbs,that car rips,on a pretty much stock 5.0.You mash the gas and it throws you in the seat, and thats only from 302 cubes, with a 350 such as yours, you will be shreding the pavement beneath you.Something to think about
