what is it, how does it work, do i need it?

It is a switch plumbed into the fuel feed line. The nitrous acivation circuit is wired thouugh the contacts of the switch so that the nitrous can not activate if the fuel pressure is too low.

It has contacts that are closed (turned on) only when enough fuel pressure is present in the line. Most are adjustable as to how much pressure it takes to close the contacts, but some are not adjustable, and must be bought for the specific pressure you need.

Only if you have a nitrous oxide system on your car. Even then you don't necisarily "need" it but it is a nice (and cheap) safety device to have if something unforseen happens to your fuel flow while the nitrous is engaged.

this is an extremely good safety device. I would say that most problems that occure (read here, hurt motors) are due to not enogh fuel. fuel pump dies, the PU comes out of the gas when you launch it. fuel pressure drops off @ 3/4 track cause pump can not keep up. this will turn off the bottle when/if the pressure drops below a certain point.
