Air intake- filter or stock?

Engine: 305 TPI
Transmission: 700-R4
Air intake- filter or stock?
Would a cone filter attached right to the throttle body give me more power than the stock airbox and twin filter setup on my 305 TPI? Would it cause problems because it would probably be sucking in warmer air?
