Yet another Junk Yard Turbo Question...

Ok, so there's a Single turbo first gen Toyota Supra in the local Junk Yard, how well would this suit my LG4 305? It'd only cost me $40... how well do these fare when just sitting around?

The Supra engine: 3.0L DOHC I6

I wonder what happened to it, the car is in great shape, just seems like a waste.

Well, it's only $40 - go get it and then read your rear end off about turbocharging. If you determine that you can't use it you can always e-Bay it. Or you can try to pick up another and twin turbo it.

Just my $.02,

Steve

The turbo was about 8-10 inches in diameter... it probably gives a pretty hefty boost. What is the likelyhood that a turbo would sieze up after sitting in a junk yard?
This car has been there for a good 2 months at least.

I havn't the slightest clue what would be in a first gen Supra. It might not even be stock. But, 8-10" is a fairly decently sized turbo, probably big enough. I'd go grab it and then look it up. If it turns out too small..you're only out $40.

Assuming no water got poured into the turbo and left there for some reason it should be fine. Reach in and see if the turbine still spins. If it does, and doesn't slop around enough that the blades hit the housing, it's probably at least rebuildable.

Also look inside at the impellar to make sure there is no damage. Any sort of thing can do alot of damage to a turbo. If it is still under the hood or otherwise covered then snag it, it's only 40 bucks. Should be worth about 6 psi anyhow.
