what would the results be if i removed the ac off my serpint belt system?? more horsepower?? and same goes for the smog pump.. would removing this mess up the computer or anything on my 89 formula 5.0 TBI??
Research that I read is that the smog pump takes about 4HP. Yes, that's it. 4HP. And the newer ones take even less.
You won't see an appreciable gain from removing your AC either, unless you're using it when you are stomping on the power.
The gain you'll really see from removing AC and smog is accessibility to your engine. If you can live without a/c and work on your engine a lot, go ahead and remove it.

I removed the A/C and smog pump from my '85 Z28 (much easier with a v-belt setup.) I did notice a slight hp gain, however the accessability gained in the engine compartment was significant! That also got rid of alot of dead weight under the hood.
