I have a new 350 im dropping in i wanted to supercharge it but the machine shop said they need to see the engine before they can tell me exact amout it will cost to supercharge it. I was just wondering what compression ratio would be good, and how much you think it would cost to run a pretty small supercharger maybe 4 or 5 pounds. Also just talking on the phone with the machine shop they said it would be better to bore it to a 355 for a supercharger but if they have to do that i just rather bore to 383, just thought u could give me some light at the end of tunnel thanks.

well if you bore the block .030 over you have the 383 minus the 400 crank...
i personally am a fan of if your gonna do it you might as well do it big...
i would say your CR should around 8.5:1... but to make only 4-5 pounds probably would be worth it maybe 9-10 psi would be better non after cooled more than that if you can run a after cooler
but you need to chose which type of S/c you want as that will determine alot of your needs
and you need to learn alot more about S/c cause it isn't going to be as simple as bolting one on and smashing the go fast peddle

Like said above, figure out what you want first. Its real hard for you and damn well impossible for anyone else to figure out what you want if you dont have a goal!
If your just looking for a couple pounds of boost you wont need much more than a basic run of the mill engine. Something in the low-mid 9:1 CR shouldnt have a problem at all especially with good gas and tune.
Depending on the budget and the plans for the car, if its a daily driver i would get a centrifugal sc and intercool it for more piece of mind and it will also give you a bit of headroom to crank up the boost when you feel the need to do so.
But really you need to set a goal...
Budget?
HP?
Car use?

i agree, IMO if you're going to spend the money to supercharge it, 4-5 psi really isnt worth it. kind of like putting a progressive controller on a 50 shot of nitrous.Use a nice 9:1 CR and intercool it and run around 8-10lbs You'll probably like it alot more. dont forget about the fuel system either, boost referenced fpr and a good pump. if you're EFI get some good injectors 42's should do fine for 500hp.
Well its a carburated engine, i got a brand new crate motor and i wanted to have around 450 hp, at first i wanted to build up the motor and put 100-150 shot on it and keep it a 350, or build the motor for the supercharger the supercharger i wanted to put on it is a weiand 144, im gonna have about 6000 to 7000 to play with on the motor.
