62-1 to small?

I recently bought an '87 Firbird Formula 350 with an L98 350 Tpi engine. I also have a 2000 Cavalier Z24 with a T3/T4 62-1 turbo. I'm about to convert the Z24 back to stock and was wondering if this turbo would be too small for the L98.

It's a T4 62-1 .74 A/R compressor, with a T3 .63 A/R exhaust with stage 5 wheel.

The engine so far is stock, I wanna make plans before I start buying things. So what do you think? Is it too small? What kind of numbers could I expect with this turbo?

Thanks for any info.

Re: 62-1 to small?

Some people say it is. There is a guy on here running a 62-1 on a budget built L98 that runs in the high 10s. I am not sure what the A/R is on his compressorside though. I think yours could be pretty good on an L98 provided you change it from a T3 backside to a T4.

I actually have a 62-1 as well that I need to do the same that I would like to run on my car if I could ever find a hot side setup.

Yeah, that's Tim's Formula. He's running a Turbonetics 62-1, 1.0 exhaust @ 14 psi, running a best of 10.78 @ 127-mph I believe....

Re: 62-1 too small?

Sweet, thanks for the quick replies. I'll look into a T4 exhaust side.

Does Tim have any pics of his setup or anything I can check out?

Thanks again.

This doesn't make sense to me. So it was a t-4 but you changed it to a t-3? Take a picture of the turbo and post it on here, i'd like to see what it looks like. If it is a turbonetics 62-1, it will support around 650 crank horsepower (atleast, by the numbers my car put down). Thats what turbonetics says. I think i have the turbo maxed out on my car.

Re: 62-1 to small?

Well, it's a T3/T4 hybrid. I have it on my Cavalier so I wanted the T3 Exhaust side for spool up reasons. It's still on my cav so I'll post the best pic I have at the moment, hopefully it good enough (had some pre-install, but lost the hard drive). If not, I'll try and get some better ones in the next couple days.

Actually, it's a Garrett 62-1, exhaust side is Turbonetics though. Thanks for the replies.
