want to turbo charge

I have a 1990 camaro, with a 3.1, I would like more performance out of it and i am considering a turbo charger. does any one make a kit? what would i have to change, (everything about the drivetrain is stock)? im sure someone has done it, was it worth it?

Re: want to turbo charge

Hey brother what's up? I was just reading in the V6 forum section and there is a sticky at the top. There is a dude in there can't remember his name off the top of my head but he is the author of it. He sells the kit you are looking for. Good luck man.

Your better off swapping the 3.1 for a sbc or bbc.

Re: want to turbo charge

....he doesnt sell the kit anymore. His new user name is project89. He has alot of good knowledge about these motors. Like daverr said tho, hp per dollar going the sbc route would be cheaper/better. Only bad thing about a sbc is the gas mileage. Inless you go the ls1 swap route, which then brings you into crazy amounts of money lol.

Personally man check this thread out...there is some good info being thrown around in there right now...i posted a responce in there you might want to read also....

Re: want to turbo charge

Thanks, was helpful. I know it would be more logical to just upgrade to a V8, but for one I like to take the path less traveled, and I pretty broke, Im a college kid with virtually no money, but I am very mechanically inclined. So Im sure I can do all the fab work myself, and as for tuning I can learn. I want to stick with a V6 for mpg. but the stock setup for a V6 leaves you with NO stinkin power, it bearly can get the car moving. And this is a brand new engine couldn't have more than 20 miles on it. anyways sorry if you just read all this Im really just kinda talkin to myself. But thanks for the pointers. I appreciate.

Re: want to turbo charge

Ya no problem man. Im a young poor college guy too. At 19 im not exactly living the rich life...fun life ya maybe but not rich lol. Either way man i would love to see another succesful turbo build on here. ALOT have tried it and alot have failed shortly after or never finished it. MOST talk about it and never actually do it....even i fell in that boat. I was all gun ho about doing a turbo until i found out all the lil things and one big thing, TUNING. which got me to relize i need to sit down and take this slow and not rush into it. Either way man if you are serious about doing this you should bring that car up to new york and ill help ya build it. Seeing as i dont have the money to do it myself id love to help someone else and at least get a ride in a turboed 3.1l firebird. Keep us posted and good luck.
