Fuel system for boost- Surge Tank?
Seems like everyone is either going with a lot of pump in the tank (at least a single 255 or twins), or sumping the tank and going with a big inline pump... Has anyone tried or thought about running a surge tank?
Seems like a surge tank might be a better way of doing this, use the stock intank to pump fuel into the surge tank, at no pressure it should be able to move _a lot_ of fuel, and the surge tank should give you a location that you can keep the pickup from getting uncovered better than any of the stock tanks, and should be easier to setup (packaging, plumbing, wire the pump straight off the alternator without having to run wire to the back of the car and some sort of relay setup for twin pumps...)...

Re: Fuel system for boost- Surge Tank?
I thought about doing the surge tank on my race car but decided not to . the surge tank would just add more clutter. Im going to mount a fuel cell in the front of the car and use a mechanical fuel pump. I have a ice water tank mounted just rear of the stock fuel tank location.
On my turbo street car i have a fuel cell mounted in the trunk and never had a problem. If your building a street car i would get a fuel cell built for your application.

this is the first time ive heard of a surge tank so please excuse my ignorance but wouldnt you still need a pump or two to pressurize fuel from the surge tank to your regulator? i feel like if this is true it would be more complicated than the other setups you mentioned. Not only you have to find a place for the tank but you also have to wire in the pumps and at the end of the day you are still using your factory 20+ yr old pump

If your surge tank was large enough it may also be a nice way to mitigate "fuel slosh" issues as well. For some odd reason I'm almost thinking something like a heavily modified freon container.
