tuning / electrnic help
I was trying to stay low budget on my project single turbo 87 iroc at first it will be a completely stock 85 305 tpi a/c delete engine with a t56 and 4.11's out back
My question is about the electronics i have been doing a great amount of home work and am leaning towards the FAST XFI SYSTEM however i would like to stay low budget and possibly even mass air does anyone know of a complete system that can replace my factory ecm and harness or even a relatively cheap ecm that i can use with the factory or painless wiring system ?
the FAST system is about 2k but the ease of tuning seems almost stupid plug and play and is kind of what i would like so i can have it up and running very quickly i have limited time and would like my vehicle up and running once i have the turbo mocked and installed ........ IE a saturday and sunday as i work almost 80 hours a week and have very limited time to use the rack @ my shop
any help will be greatly appreciated !!!!

google and ebay are of no help

Cheap and easy... Dynamic EFI's EBL Flash
Cheap and a bit more work to get going... Megasquirt II and the TPI harness adapter board (requires soldering).
Both give you a boost capable speed density system, so you eliminate the mass air and either of these options keep your stock harness. You'll have to run a couple of extra wires but that's it. EBL is based on your factory ECM whereas the Megasquirt is a completely different ECM. EBL can retain pretty much all of your factory pollution control devices and megasquirt cannot. Megasquirt tuning is awesome but there are a few weird things that happen at times as well.
Cost on both is similar... aoound $500 will get you going.

Re: tuning / electrnic help
i am not afraid of soldering or wiring in the least i would like something that will be relatively worry free and i am not worried about smog equipment as there will be none present i have not heard too much about either system do they have good tec support if for some reason i screw something up and do either systems offer self tuning capability's ? ideally i would like to plug it in and be able to fire on the first shot even if its not running close to 50 %

Both systems are going to be preset to fuel maps that are close to a stock TPI 350. If you want support you'd do better with EBL.. Because the Megasquirt is open source and your support is mostly limited to forums. However, the Megaquirt is the more flexible of the two systems and does have autotune. It works decently well but of course you have to clean up the results manually. Also don't forget you'll need a wide band O2 for either system.
I don't have an hands-on experience with the EBL as I went to the megasquirt... however I would have definitely considered it if it was around when I did my changeover. Or if it was around, if I had known about it! Instead, I rewired my 87 mass air to speed density and tried using Code 59 with a 7730 speed density ecm. It worked well until I went to my new injectors and never could get it to work right with them (65# precisions). After two months of fighting I went Megasquirt and that was that.

Re: tuning / electrnic help
thank you for the info i will be researching both systems and i will definitely post once i decide which one i want to go with right now i am in the acquiring parts fase i am hoping i will have everything or most of by early march and have it all up and running shortly there after
Re: tuning / electrnic help
JMO even if you go with the EBL read the Mega Manual, at least the tuning parts. You will have a hell of a lot better understanding of how EFI in general works. If you want I can post a base N/A tune up for a TPI 305 with a stock L98 cam in it and some ported heads/intake. Should be pretty close, probably kick over damn near on the first key or with some minor tweaks. Get the adapter board too, it's awesome. DIYAuto Tune sells it, I set bought the TBI one then removed the individual injector harness and put in my own for the port injection. Overall I've made virtually no mods to my harness.
I used Megatune/the B&G code for my Megasquirt II for a while, after fighting it I went to the Extra code and Tuner Studio. TS is leaps and bounds ahead of Megatune right now so I have no hesitation to say that's the right way to go.
I would advise get the system runninng on your car N/A stock so you know what you're doing, then turbo after that. A step based approach is a good thing.
Also the wide band is a good thing, get one.
