Which forged pistons.
Which forged pistons.
I'm piecing together a motor for my daily driver. I already have the eagle 4130 crank and h-beam rods. I was wondering what pistons I should go with. I've heard good things about both TRW and Wiseco. Are the Wiseco's that much better than the TRW's? I plan of making about 400 NA HP and spraying and additional 150-200. I want to get the best pistons I can within reason. I would appreciate any and all comments.
Thanks,
Chris

i went with the wiseco's on my 406 build up, cant tell you yet how they work but look exellent. for a daily driver your not going to need h beam rods and eagle crank, also i talked with eagle directly for a while on pistons and he said quote "run anything but TRW's(speed pro) they suck" i guess they TRW doesnt like the eagle rods all that much according to them, KB makes a nice piston also. JE and ross are about the best you can get, SRP also has some nice pistons.

after working with alot of cars and alot of nitrous on our dyno and at the track. we have come to the conclusion that unless you order a custom built piston (which we do alot on strokers) with a large top ring land (relocating the rings further down) the TRW's are the ticket. TRW does mass produce, but they still press more aluminum into thier slugs during the forging process than most of the racing piston manufacturers. they also do less finish machining (except the fully machined line of forged pistons denoted by the FM on the part #) that leaves alot of extra beef on the piston. all this leads to a very heavy piston (not particularly ideal) but also a strong one. we spray over 500 hp on compressions of over 13:1 and everything fails excet the pistons in most cases. we even made a pass on a 350 shot on one car and the fuel system failed during the pass and the pistons lived! after making a few more ten second passes and a couple thousand street miles we tore the motor down end of season to find this was the only problem. the rings were not broken and the bore were not damaged, but this spark plug was pulled out right after the no fuel pass. In my opinion they are heavy as anvils but tough as anvils also.

thanks B4CTOM I feel a little better but Tempest68 still has me a little worried as you can see in my sig I run speed-pro and eagle rods just got it in the car wish me luck. I built for a power adder if someone make a turbo kit but you all know that story

B4C Thanks to this post Ive decided to go Federal Mogul (TRW) Whether or not i got the "tough as anvil" pistons, I made the decision based on this post alone heh... and the money factor (they are still expensive)
I got the Ultra-Light Federal Mogul Forged .030 over pistons, 9:1 compression with a 70CC Head chamber, for my blower. they cost me less than $13.00 a piece new from my good friend who i got a good deal on a sterio :-)
They should help me get into the high-horsepower range like never before.
The rods will be Lunati, and the crank will be eagle. both will be 4340 forged.
