Well some of you might remember my post a little while back about "need help badly with new motor" It was the glowing headers story" Well i decide to go ahead with my new cam and take things a step further and go with a custom intake setup as well. I now have a single plain intake "just like Guido's" and I then topped it off with a custom billet throttle body from force fuel injection. After putting the car back together and going back to my Haltech DFI I went to the dyno yesterday. Well after about 2 hours or so on the Dyno we had my air/fuel at 12.85-13.00 all the way across the board. He also reprogrammed everything from scratch. My fuel maps, timming,cold start, yadda yadda, basicaly the whole deal. Well we took a break and then went back to it and decided to it was time for some wide open throttle runs. Well with everything going good I was getting excited untill my motor only made 284 hp and 380ftlb's !!!!!!!! what a nightmare this motor has been. If you look back on my old topic "need help badly with new motor" My motor with a smallercam and a super ram made 332hp and 487ftlb and get this with the air/fuel at 11.15 "pig rich" Now the only change was the cam, intake, converter, and th350 "from 700r4" The old converter was a 2800 the new one is a 3400. After another hour or so the best it made was 284hp 387ftlbs. Every time we did a pull it seemed as if the motor was struggling to climb a hill it was wierd. We then tried starting a little ealrier that 3k and it popped through the intake like crazy and had even less power. Now get this. The air fuel was still an amazing 12.85 13.27 all the way through the pull. but still no power and it seemed to struggle like crazy to run through the pull.
I am now at a loss and have no idea what else to check,replace, buy, etc. The only thing I have come up with is that when we took my rockers off a while back we noticed that the rockers had been witting the retainers. We fly cut the rockers and had plenty of clearance. So I am wondering If it caused some kind of damage that I am unaware of. Is there a possibility that the springs were weakend? or anything else. Please help before I take the 9k$ project and throw it away....

some times I see this on my dyno when a customer has too conservative of a timing curve on when they set thier base timing at a lower setting than the computer thinks it is (I.E. timing set at 0* and computer thinks base is 8*). Very retarded timing will result in glowing headers. Ive seen people bake the HPC and Jet Hot coatings off thier headers on the dyno and during initial startups of new engines. I hope this helps.
