Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen WORST THREAD EVER!!! glad to know every ones alright tho i would be ready to kill some one if anything like this happened to mine |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen 6 Attachment(s) Finally, a thread I can post pictures in! Attachment 441920 The above picture is the hard work of three separate incidents. 1. The dent on the right is from parking behind one of my friends in her driveway. She got in her car while I was inside, and backed right into my hood. I'd had the car for two whole weeks. 2. The wrinkle in the bumper cover (can't see too well) is from me rearending a truck in 5 o'clock traffic doing 15-20. This is the only accident that's my fault. :( 3. The destroyed emblem and scratches (along with the dent on the left) are from some chick in a lifted truck deciding that instead of making a right turn instead of a left out of a parking lot, she was just gonna back up and go to the light. Without looking behind her. The bumper cover and hood were already damaged, and she didn't have insurance, so I just let her go. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...n/poorcar2.jpg Did I mention that the truck I rearended had a tow hitch? Oh. Well. It did. Damn thing wasn't even scratched. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...n/poorcar3.jpg Closeup on the damage. Attachment 441921 I got hit by an old couple in a parking lot. Ever since this, I have never parked at the very front of any parking lot. My insurance declared me at fault when they found out I was in reverse during the incident. Apparently being in reverse makes you wrong. No matter what. Attachment 441922 This is where the thieves pried open my window to get in to STEAL THE CAR. Attachment 441923 This is where my car caught fire when I was having subframe connectors installed. The shop fixed all of the wiring, and got me a deal on new carpet. I knew I shoulda pulled it out instead of just lifting it up on 2x4s where the welding was going on. Attachment 441924 My melted hood popper. :( Attachment 441925 I got sick of my car smelling like a barbeque pit, so I ripped the carpet out. Found some mold along the body seams, and haven't finished fixing those to put the carpet, console, and everything else back in. For still being mechanically sound, my car is pretty jacked. >.< |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen No. A BBQ pit. Like the ashes in the grill. From catching FIRE. That, and I got sick of seeing the large section of the carpet missing. |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen http://a421.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...5b451d93a4.jpg totaled. old man ignored stop sign and got into my lane. I was doing about 60 or 70 mph :/. T-top popped off and ended up in the middle of the street all cracked. Car did 180 spin and I ended up with the rear into a light post. The old man step on the gas instead of the brake and went down a block and hit a parked truck haha. Insurance paid me in full, actually more than I had paid for the car :D |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen **** your lucky to be alive.. My brothers wreck was just as bad but we didnt get hurt either. |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen wow theres a huge height difference between the front and back of where the T-top goes... no wonder it exploded outa there, like the top on a squished pringle can. glad ur alright. |

Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen 2 Attachment(s) Sorry, but I had too. Anyway the first one (Firebird) was kinda sorta mine. Friend gave it to me, no keys, no title, and my car needed doors and half an interior that this one had. Attachment 441647 Don't really have a good pic of my car, but the driverside door is dented. It was wrecked before I bought it, the ds fender was replaced and painted (dosen't match), the bottom part of the front fender is gone, and you can see that the bumper came off another car. The hood isn't straight, dosen't close right, and it bent in several spots. Attachment 441648 |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen Here are two I owned : http://memimage.cardomain.com/member...6_227_full.jpg 89 - total frame twistage - a tree collied with the car at low speed - 80k miles http://memimage.cardomain.com/member...6_202_full.jpg 89 - very minor damage - a deer came out to smack my car at 70mph - 170k miles |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen 2 Attachment(s) I bought mine like this from a friend. He fell asleep at the wheel and a mailbox jumped out in front of him. Bought it for $600 including everything needed to fix it except for a radiator and the passenger spindle. Still ran great, drove it on the trailer at his house and then off the trailer and into my garage. Took us two trucks and a car trailer to get everything to my house. I can still remember the look on my wife's face when she saw us coming up the street. I told her it needed work, but apparently she didn't realize just how much work it needed. It's still a work in progress, daily driver in the summer and garaged for wrenching on in the winter. |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen *Paging iansane*... :( |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen I'll just have to provide a link. The whole story is on a thread on sx4club.com. http://www.sx4club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4438 |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen xflgkingpin vbmenu_register("postmenu_3923241", true); I sold it to a guy that wanted the front suspension for a 3/4 60's truck. Best part of that was it's a V-6 car and he paid me to take it to his house. |

Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen did you fix it or did it get totaled hart? When did it happen? |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen no it totaled it the doors got pushed into the quarters and the whole unibody was bent. it sucks i had the car for 4 weeks i traded a 66 valiant for it. it was a beautiful car i loved it and i was driving in my neighborhood and this girl pulled right infront of me had no time to stop. she had no plates no insurance no nothing and i only had liability coverage. so yea it really sucks i havent had a car to drive for the last 4 months till 2 weeks ago i found a 89 gta for a few hundred bucks and thats what i drive now. i sure do miss the 86 |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen Has anyone seen the preview for the show "human wrecking balls" on G4? They showed the guys destroying a perfectly fine Firebird:eek: . I don't know if I could watch that show without getting pissed. |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen 3 Attachment(s) Well guys...I hate to resurrect a dead post, but I wanted to share my pain. As a police officer I have seen many wrecks, many of which involved drunk drivers. I always looked at these accidents and said I hope this never happens to me. As I was lheaded home from work in my 87 TA with 91k original miles, I stopped at a light. Ironically some friends of mine were working an accident that occured about 45 mins earlier and they had their cruisers pulled into the median with the wrecked vehicles. At the red light I had two cars in front of me, all of a sudden I'm rearended by something, and it was lights out for me. One of the cops came up and found me wedged between the steering wheel and my seat. There first impressions was seeing me in uniform and they thought I was dead. I soon came around, I feel strongly that the seat belt and my ballistic vest took much of the shock of the wreck. A state trooper came to investigate and found the driver that struck me at fault and arrested him for DUI. As for my car...without a doubt its never coming back. The impact from the rear definately bent the frame and crushed the bumper badly, broke my exhaust mounts and sheered several header bolts I believe. After the first impact my car was forced into the car in front of me and both car were pushed 20 ft ahead. The hood, front end, and engine mounts are shot...surprisingly the radiator did not crack open but the car is totaled I'm sure. The doors are out of allignment so i'm sure the frame is bent bad. I have a lot of history with that car. I'm the second owner, my dad being the first having bought the car a week after I was born in 1986. He waffled around and toyed with the idea of selling it long before I could drive but decided he would keep it for me as a gift some day to give to me. On my 18th birthday I recieved the car and for the last 7 yrs that I have driven it, I have babied the car. Over the years I have had many offers to purchase the car as its not totally original but very clean with a flawless interior and very minor hazing in the paint from age. Sadly today my memories with this car came to a screeching hault. One mans poor decisions cost me my most prized possession, fortunetly I was blessed to walk away from an accident that could have cost me my livelihood or much worse, so for that I'm thankful. To all you guys that have been many long hard hours into your car and lost them over silly things, I am truely sorry as I now join all of you. My only hope is that my injuries are not long term and that the scumbag that hit me who endangered himself and everyone else on the road becuase he was too idiotic to pass the keys to someone else, pays for the crime he has commited. Below I will post some pics for you guys to see, I'm sorry if this seem long winded but I had to share my misery with some folks who might understand. Thanks for listening, Harvs |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen man that really sucks, are you okay? and post some pics of the car when you get chance... sure was a beautiful car though. btw a little irony, I too own an 87 Trans Am, Im the second owner, and I want to be a police officer. |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen Take care of that car man...theres one less out there now...I will post pics. No life threatening injuries, just some bad neck whiplash, hard to look around, but I plan on having it checked out. Good luck on the LE route, its a fun career, very challenging and dynamic, have fun! |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen thanks man, and I will take care of her for sure, just as you did, really sad that one mans' stupid move can take that right away, but like you said atleast you have your life and thats whats really important. |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen [quote=4mul8r;3924248]Here are two I owned : http://memimage.cardomain.com/member...6_227_full.jpg 89 - total frame twistage - a tree collied with the car at low speed - 80k miles "a tree collied with the car" :lmao:those bastards NEVER yield. the pics are probably long gone, but i had my license for 3 months and learned the hard way that bald tires + rain and leaves are no fun. Rear end stepped out at 20-25 mph on a sharp turn, went to correct and the fronts decided to do a little dance too. I got things straightened out about .002 seconds before she hoped the the curb and a tree collided with the the rear quarter. Luckily it wasn't hard enough to pop the hatch glass and the car was already scheduled for paint the following month. I just added a quarter panel install to the work for an extra 500$. it was on the side of my sig pic, clearly only emotional scars remain today.... |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen 1 Attachment(s) It had lived a good life before it burned to the ground. |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen Wow What caught on fire first? the car or the house? |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen My God this is the saddest thred I have ever seen. My heart sunk more and more with every story. I'm deeply sorry for everyone who has lost their Thirds in accidents and wrecks. I luckily have my Third gen and will hopefully never crash it or wreck it. about a year before I bought mine I was 17 and was taking my dog for a walk around the neighborhood. I walked around the corner and saw a giant tower of black smoke. I walked... well ran, to see what the commotion was and there on the street was a third gen Firebird engulfed in flames. The fire trucks came shortly and by the time they got it out all that was left was a shell of a Firebird. I talked to the owner who seemed to be fairly un affected by the event. I asked him how he was so calm after watching his car go up in flames when he told me that this was his new project. After talking about his car and how I hoped to one day own one he opened his garage for me and that's where his 1990 IROC was sitting. Exact same as my GTA as far as options, year and color but his is a hard top not a T-top. I believe his exact quote was Well as long as this one's still safe I'll be happy. |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen 1 Attachment(s) man my wreck was nothing compared to these, sad thing was it got totaled and happened while i was waiting in the drive thru at mc donalds. truck infront of me got tired of waiting and backed up real fast... so much for using mirrors. jacked my hood up, cracked my bumper, broke the headlights and headlight bar... it has been in my family since like 93 and has over 300k miles so to insurance its worth like 1200 bucks.... never thought to have it appraised. |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen 1 Attachment(s) Little rain and a lotta curb (plus too heavy of a right foot). I was very lucky. Sent the rim off to Nu Wheels, $125.00 to fix and should have the rim back this week. |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen Any thoughts or opinions as to what I should do with mine? I have to talk to insurance company today and see what I can do with it. If I had a house with a garage I would consider dumping it in there and storing it till I can find a fairly mint project to use my good interior parts on. I hate to just scrap it and I don't really have a ton of time to figure all this out. I keep seeing more and more banged up third gens...I'm still in shock over mine and its been a few days for it to wear off...oh well. |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen 4 Attachment(s) My former 86 iroc before the accident Attachment 439450 After my mom spun it out in the rain and went offroading backwards. Luckily she walked away without a scratch. The underside of the car was gone though (these pics only show half the carnage) Attachment 439451 Attachment 439452 Attachment 439453 Might want to also add, car had 56,000 miles on it and a brand new paintjob that cost way way too much. Oh well. |

Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen Shame...... but it looks pretty bada$$ slammed (lowered) like that in the pic! |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen Jose - There must be some storage yards around where you can rent a space. Talk with your insurance agent and see what it will cost you to buy it back. It was pretty straight forward when another car of mine was totalled and I wanted my new motor out of it. Keep the Third Gen faith... |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen Yah I'm thinking that...I've never cared too much for lawyers but mine may be a saving grace this time. I will have to see how much it will cost to buy it back and store somewhere...the parts (headers, spohn suspension, interior, etc...) are too go to just junk. I kinda wondering about the integrity of the engine...I went today and took some pics, which I will try to get up this week. The radiator did not bust and the engine except for the air intake and all that plastic crap is appears decent...we'll see though, I might be able to resurrect her in a new form or something, I guess I've needed a good project...more to come guys! |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen Outsch, it's the saddest thread ever ;_; Anyway, here's my little contribution, after a woman in a CRV rear ended me. Three bright red traffic lights, one over each lane, and cars already stopped, about two to three cars deep. How could she not see THAT? I didn't even bother asking if it was makeup or a cell phone... but man, I love Belairdirect. My original purchase price was under $1000 canadian, and the damage was nearly twice that, at 1800. First they asked me if I did any restoration and how much - faithfully noting it all down in my file - rebuilt engine, new transmission, interior parts, lots of bodywork... apparently, it's now worth about 8K, they say... They also asked me to let them know when I finish the restoration and give it the final paint job so that they can cover it properly. And apparently my insurance was doubled now, and I actually pay a bit less. Wow. Are all insurance companies this cool? :) http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/2171/dsc0776la5.jpg Doesn't look so bad on the outside, but the back wall of the trunk went in a couple of inches, the rebar was GONE, and I'm still finding little cracks here and there in plastic bits of the interior, or tailight housings, etc. http://img65.imageshack.us/img65/5170/dsc0878iu8.jpg What was left of the rebar... if she was going any faster, it would have broken in two (was rotten) and the damage would be pretty much catastrophic. http://img161.imageshack.us/img161/5065/dsc0890ax3.jpg Now, since it was pointless to repaint parts on a car that's going to be completely repainted anyway, the money saved there went into fixing the underside, parts of fenders and quarter panels, and even completely patching my rotten doors. I just resprayed the black anti-rust coating myself afterwards. That was just before New Year, and they didn't manage to finish everything before closing down for a 10-day holiday, so I'm still going back to get the GFX back on. the owner of the shop, who's pretty much a friend by now, said the accident must have been a Christmas gift from heavens, LOL :D in the end, we ended up fixing up a lot more. |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen i vote this thread be locked i cringe every-time i get an email saying there is a new post :-/ |
Re: lets see your smashed up 3rd gen 4 Attachment(s) Attachment 438398 Attachment 438399 87 iroc full optioned car had under 36k miles on it car has alil bit of history, was one of our shops friends who owned the car he bought the car new in 87 fully optioned. the car was stolen within the first year and recovered a month later striped.insurance paid to have the car put back together. he then drove the car for another 2 or 3 years before letting his son take it to prom, were he crashed it into a parked schoolbus doing a decent speed. car sat in his driveway after till late sometime in 2006 when i picked up the car for 400$'s, the l98 and trans went into another 3rdgen while all the suspension and some interior pieces/tailights made there way into my 89 rs, and the 9bolt rear end got sold to a guy down in maryland. the car was fixable and i would to have love to have repaired it but i couldnt afford to have the frame pulled and paint work done, but it did help a few more 3rdgens live on this is all that was left when i sent it to the junkyard Attachment 438400 Attachment 438401 i still have many parts form this thing in storage at my shop i dont think i left anything in it when i sent it to the junkyard |
