VERY nice.I'd say they will choose to eat the cost of a pan over redoing the whole deal. The entire setup looks like top quality stuff, love it,even if it is a sb.

Lingenfelter did my last eng a 383 stage five,up grade.
the that one is still in the car,and will be coming out in a few days.
the oil windage tray, oil pick up,heads and a few other parts are getting swaped over, will be going over the heads with new Springs, locks, and seals, they only have 5000 miles on them if that, but want to keep every thing fresh and new.

will have my art guy do the sides of the cowl hood with 427 on it, as soon as it's tuned and running.
11.9.1
mech roller cam
open the parts book and drop it in!

I could have started out with a 454 small block, (same price)
BUT,I always wanted a 427, in My camaro.)and this one can always get a over bore down the road..LOL

Re: 427 short block photos

wanted to keep it under 12.1, like 11.9.1, but i looked up the piston part # and it's at 12.1 with a 64 cc head.. my heads are at 65.6 cc so i think i just got it under 12.1.

they list this SRP Pro piston at 12.1 with 64cc heads. and:
400 FLAT TOP PROFESSIONAL SERIES
  • PISTON DESIGN
  • Advanced, lightweight FSR forging that eliminates stress concentrations for superior strength
  • Up to 20% lighter than traditional equivalent
  • High-silicon 4032 aluminum alloy for reduced piston-to-wall clearance and quiet operation
  • Accumulator grooves for improved ring seal
  • Designed for normally aspirated or moderate forced induction/nitrous applications
  • Now includes high performance skirt coating!
  • RINGS INCLUDED
  • Lightweight, low friction metric ring package included
  • 1.2mm top ring, 1.5mm Napier 2nd ring, 3.0mm standard tension oil ring
  • Napier 2nd ring for improved oil control
  • Minimal filing required

    PINS AND LOCKS
  • High quality 2.250" pin further reduces reciprocating weight
  • Carbon steel wire locks included
thats almost 1 full point up from 11.1 on my last 383.
and we are also adding 36lb injtrs.

well talked to them about the oil dip stick, on the wrong side.
sorta thats to bad, sorry about that,

the thing they bring up is, with the new stroke my old Miladon pan would not work anyway, with a 4" stroke.

so i would have to buy a new pan anyway.
my old pan has the windage tray and all the goodys.
the other pan has the same thing built into it.

cant say anything about PBM OR ProComp never used or seen anything from them.
and nickle and vandeom (are the good things) chome Vandeom(spelling) is the hardest stuff that comes in from the East..im a gun smith and use it alot..it's tuff stuff by it's self.

I took a look and read..i rememmber when Dart first started selling there blocks..same thing.any time you have somthing new the Girls will chime in. with there banter.. but i do understand.;)
I HAVE USED
Blocks By
Dart
&
GMPP BowTie.
I know the score, and Have paid out cash, for what I know will Hold Up.

this is Not, a ProComp or PBM Block.

from JP who i also talked to today about my oil pan

FROM THE SITE: REPLY
:Then asked if they were PBM blocks..

No. These are our own blocks. We machine and CNC them here in our own 18,000 sq ft machine shop, on the premises.
Thanks,
JP

some of the old guys will not Buy into the new things, sorta like back in the 80s and the Guys at the track saying they would never use EFI in a Race car or Hot Rod...:p

I read alot of the things on the net.. and dissmiss the Junk i know for a fact is Junk, but to Post it. with out knowing the facts,I just dont do it.

and it looks like i have to shell out $230 for a new oil pan..

looks like this 383 with it's Bowtie Block will be going up for sale (maby)
on a good note i think i get to use the pick up from the old 383.
if it's not welded to the Oil Pump:lol:

the last time i checked this up grade was only going to be $5 to $6000
IM OVER $10.000 now, I need to get a Job I think.

Re: 427 short block photos

Go to speedtalk and start reading about the wheeler, pro comp and PBM blocks. Looks like the engraving is done in FL, the machining too (wheeler?) but seriously look at the posts by Carl Hickson from CNC blocks. He doesn't beat around the bush. These are those Dart Little M copies. Does yours have an anti surge hole for the water pump? Your block w/ the ribs across the freeze plugs looks a lot like it. What caught my attention is the trash screen, that's what those all have. Hickson tested a no name brand block and it tested real low for alloying and hardness. Not sure if his was a PBM block or not, haven't checked it out lately. There were some big discussions going on over there.

With respect to "girls come in with banter" that Hickson guy doesn't beat around the bush, he probed out the entire block and had a different guy test the hardness. I feel what he posted over there are valid numbers.

(BTW, it's chrome vanadium)

That guy is one of the worst posters on that site IMO. He is there simply to sell. Not long ago, and you probably read it too, someone posted a link to Little M blocks that were basically selling at wholesale cost. He came out and said they were seconds without any proof to back it up. Said he had an inside guy at Dart, yadayada. But absolutely no proof. Then he does a competitive sale on the same block but won't publish his price. Somehow the thread pointing the way to a deal turns into an advertisement for him.

I am not saying the testing he did on the blocks is invalid. In fact from what i have read about Wheeler its amazing the motor actually showed up. But i take everything that guy posts with a grain of salt.
On speed talk it is accepted that Dart is the only real option for SBC blocks. The tests i most recently on the PBM and the same block under another name were crap. The nickle content was almost non existent.

The problem i see with this response is that where the block is machined has absolutely ZERO to do with the metallurgy that created the block. No mention of a foundry, do you really believe they aren't coming from China?

ya know what Guys..

this is the same Crap. you see on the Gun sites..some body will say. somthing is diff, there for, not as good, or trash.

just like all the other sites with all the other info, and miss info this site is no diff, dont get me wrong this site has some good info, but at the same time, this site has minedless bannter, with no facts.. if I made a block out of Chrome Vanadium steel..sombody some place would say i need more copper in in to make it work..lol

what it comes down to is this, it's a cast iron block, im using.
not Alum. like i was going to use, this block is stronger then the Alum block, hands down. no core shift, at all, nexed to what a alum block would have, but then we are not spinning it to 9000 rpm,all day long!!

I WILL TAKE THIS BLOCK, OVER A GMPP ALUM BOWTIE BLOCK!
this block will do ever thing i want it to!!

this cast iron block is fine for a 6800 RPM eng,or even a 8000rpm eng:imo:
iv only had to turn a ford eng this Hi,(8500) in the RPM to make power.
but i see nothing to lead me to think i could not turn this one just has Hi if Needed to!

I have to agree with you, articwhite. I can't say I know anything about Wheeler specifically, but it looks like a well thought-out piece. Hard to imagine they'd go through all that and accept crap castings.

So, all you TGO dudes and dudettes out there that don't have any data to back up your nay-saying, what say you back off a bit, K?

And, can we all agree right here and now that all this "high nickel" crap is just an urban legend that refuses to die?

Mexico is a bad comparison. The mexican 302 fords are the most desirable stock 302 blocks.

I never said the block wouldn't hold up. If anything i was defending your block. But that doesn't mean i will overlook the obvious when they are saying this is "our" block. A dart block isn't the same as a world products block. Its the foundry not the machine shop that defines the block. Whatever block you buy it is expected the finishing machine work will be done by a quality shop. That's a moot point.

I understand about the ford blocks (was a ford fan in the 80's)
and used a Mexican 302 block..(had the better mains) sorta like the 289HI PO. block.

It "looks" good. That's a hell of a price for a SBC 427 but Schwanke Engines sell LS motors for cheap and they are suppose to be good.

I will be interested to see how your build goes and all the supporting mods you are putting in it. I hope you aren't putting TPI back on it. LOL

To the response to it has their name on it, Craftsman's tools are made over seas and they stamp their name on it once it gets here. I did read that on the internet so it may or may not be true.

Best of luck to the OP. I had bad luck with the 406 a local machine shop built for me and I wasted thousands of dollars on. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

was looking for a few weeks at others. in the 427 & 434 CID size. this block and parts. also all forged all the way up to 454 and 14.1 +,was the best price,i could come up with, ther are afew others out there with in $200 to $300 of the same thing, And I get to try a new place out,

have done the 383/406 cid stuff in the past, and always wanted a 427.just to say it.

Lingenfelter had for sale,in the 420cid size an eng that makes over 543 fpt and 525 HP. with a tad smaller cam.and 11.1 and corvet heads.
that eng made over 400 FPT at 1600 RPM,(and never fell under 400fpt all the way to 6000rpm) this one is just a step up in size /cam and a few other things, so i know ill be in the ball park of what i want.:burnout:

new lifters (.300 longer) old mech rollers will not fit this Block) $465

(i like them they work, you dont know it's there)

2 eng stands
and a list of other small things

and spent the last 2 hrs working keybords over to get on the PC..LOL
will be updating with full list of photos. as soon as i get the 427 out of its box and start doing the make over.. hope it starts to get fun soon:cool:

The fact that they couldnt be bothered to mask the engine fore they painted dosnt say much about there attention to detail. If they cannot manage to paint a engine, how can they manage to build one?

That doesn't mean anything. I used to work in a machine shop where we built engines. My boss - the head machinest was a very good machinest. He was maticulouse(spelling) and built really great solid engines. But then I would laugh when I'd see him paint a block without taping everything off. I would, but thats just me. Some guys feel its not important, but it doesn't mean the cylinders arent perfectly straight, each cylinder isnt shaped perfectly to each brand new piston, or every other part of the block inst perfect.

after getting a 2nd GM 5.7 TP emblem

I will remove the 5.7 from the emblem on the car.

you would have to be Brain Dead to think the car still had the 5.7 in it anyway, would like to get a 7.0 in place of the 5.7..lol
