Best suggestion ever!
(speaking to the moderators/owners of the messageboard):
This suggestion of mine is likely a suggestion that you've heard before. And there is a reason for that. Whenever there is a suggestion that is repeated often, it simply means there are a lot of people who want the same thing.
We should have an off-topic or 'lounge' type area on this board. There are many reasons for this. Granted; I have never operated a message board so I do not understand many of the facets involved. However, I see some of these points as valid when I look at them as I imagine you would from your point(s) of view.
Increased traffic. If there is an off-topic area people will post more. People like to talk about random things with people they can identify with. We do not socialize with people we do not get along with unless we are absolutely forced to. Personally I know I would much rather talk about random things with the thirdgen people I love than to do it with a group I don't neccessarily like so much.
Increased traffic means more potential revenue. If more people will frequent your messageboard due to the inclusion of an 'off-topic' area then there will be more oprotunities for revenue from advertising. And money is one of the underlying reason for doing practically anything these days so you can not deny the importance of this.
Concerns? The only concern I imagine anyone would have with this is finding proper moderation. It has to be harder to moderate this kind of area on a messageboard simply due to the volume and randomness of the posts. The thing is, once you have this type of section to the board you will have people spending a lot more time here. And some of those people will be just the ones you would like to have moderating the 'off-topic' zone.
I ask that you consider this closely. And I would like a reply too. Anyone that responds to this I ask that you attempt to remain constructive and considerate.

i agree with this idea, this is a very select group of third genners and we could have very interesting opinions here, besides,it would lower the number of wrong postings at other boards

I don't get what people do not understand about this. Had it before, don't want it again. We don't wanna deal with it, especially on such a tech focused site. TGO gets enough traffic as it is BTW.
