Slow loading

I was wandering what is making TGO load so slowly. When I go to my favorites and click on the TGO icon it takes like at least one minute for the site to load up. I don't think it is my computer because I don't have this problem with any of the other web sites that I visit. I would like to figure this out because I really like this site and would visit it alot more if it didn't take so long for it to load.

Is this mainly through the front/home page? If so, we are aware of the issue on our end. It does not affect the forums.

Re: Slow loading

Yes JT. Im experiencing the same problem. The "slow" is only evident during the initial load of the website once the address is punched in.

Re: Slow loading

JT,
I've noticed a slow down on all pages including a long wait after hitting the 'reply' button to make this post.
The longest wait though, is getting on the site.

Re: Slow loading

If all you are doing is visiting the message boards you can login to the message boards and save that as a favorite and bypass the front page. That way it doesn't take as long to load, well at least for me anyway.

Remember that many things can factor into this, some beyond our control, such as your ISP's network utilization, your ISP's routing to ThirdGen.org's server, our server load, etc. I'm currently, and recently, not seeing any performance issue on the forums itself. There is a known issue related to the CMS on the home/front page, which is why the home/front page is slow to respond.

Although you can directly bookmark the forums itself, because we don't technically prevent that, I don't exactly recommend that from the stand point that there is more to TGO than just the forums (admittedly the forums make up the bulk of the website and activity). Although perhaps until we resolve the issue with the home/front page not loading normally.

Re: Slow loading

I had the same issue. It went away, and is back now. It's nothing on your end like JT already stated. Just bookmark https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ for now.

Re: Slow loading

Putting the message page as my favorite instead of the home page made it alot faster this will work out fine for me because I most generally go to the message board to make and answer post, although almost everything that I do from replying to going to next or the last page that I have visited takes longer than any other forum that I visit. With that out there I will say that this is the most informative forum for third gens that I have visited.

JT: Thank you for your reply.

I understand that there are many factors governing web access, many beyond your control.

Please don't misunderstand my first post. I wasn't complaining but I thought I would share my most recent experiences on the site in case the problem with the main/home page extended further than you were aware. I haven't had a problem accessing TGO until Saturday. If my ISP changed something, I'm unaware of it.

If I'm the only one experiencing it, well, it sucks to be me!

Understood, and not a problem. We are aware of an issue with the front/home page of TGO, which is dependent on if you are logged into the forums or not.

Beyond that, I'm not aware of performance issues on the forums itself. I have not experienced any performance issues on the forums itself. Due to the fact that ISPs often "oversubscribe", it would not be uncommon at all for some members to belong to the same website, and experience local congestion, impacting their performance. So yes, there is many factors when speaking about performance issues on websites.

Thanks.
