Service manual archive?

Service manual archive?

I'm not optimistic about the legality of this, but I more than just a few of us have put parts from different years on our cars. I think I have parts from a total of 4 different years on mine...anyway it'd be nice to have access to the service manuals from different years so that if something comes up we don't have to shell out $50 to look at a couple pages. Any opinions?

This has been brought up before, but a "copyright" issue would be an issue. I doubt we can gain the ability to broadcast - publicaly to anyone with an internet connection - books that fetch such a price.

Just an idea here: what about making it available only to members? If that doesn't limit the audience from "public" to "restricted", we could also pose a post-count/membership-length limit to grant access only to active members. Would that be more acceptable legally?
