rep system?
just thinking it might not be a bad idea. this way users can get some sort of credit for the helpfull post they give to this site and might also be helpfull for newer members to see who some of the more usefull members are rather then just looking at post count alone.
Re: rep system?
The inherent problem, which in general is part of the internet, is people often abuse such features by purposely rating up or down based on the member, and not the content. Just like it could have some value, it could be a source of conflict. Therefore, I'm not totally convinced on the idea.

Re: rep system?
I can easily understand on that one. the only thing I can think of with that to prevent the malicious ones is to remove the rating down part and rather just have it to where one can be rated up. sure it isn't a fix all but at least at that point you are removing the rating down part just to be a *****. that there really should be no need to have a rate down system. I think with this part it will work out on it's own without rating someone down. you see someone with 4000post and only 3 rep vs someone with 1000 post and 100 rep. you can see who is giving more and better help there. I know though not a cure all and easily not a perfect world but is anything?
the other thing that might help is having an overall rep that shows everytime a member x has been repped with another rating right below showing how many reps came from unique people. that way if you see a guy with 100 reps but from 3 people you know somethings going on also.
if nothing else depending on the change required to something like this it might be worth it for a trail run.

or just allow one vote per thread.
Re: rep system?
The only boards that I know of that has rep it is basically worthless. Some of the dumbest advice has come from members with the most rep, it just means people like them.

Re: rep system?
TGO doesn't need those useless rep systems.
Re: rep system?
At this time after some discussion, I would have to say that I still don't agree to such a rating system due to the issues that come with such a rating system.
As I stated above, it comes with a lot of issues and conflicts which I don't see a lot of resolution for. Even then, I don't know how much value the system would bring. Besides, Members should see the post content quality to see who the helpful members are.
I just don't think this would be good for TGO.
