My first camaro, first drop im pretty excited lol but at the same time i know it needs some work. its a iroc 305 z28 , original iroc rims, black top, paint looks good but has little chips and imperfections here and there, the speedometer dont work, driver seat got some tears, not sure if the top is in so good shape ill post some pics on that i know its missing some thread, the dash is in great condition the horn dont work but im pretty satisfied , engine dont sound to bad either but then again im a camaro virgin so im not 100% sure how it should sound, mayb ill upload a video of that.

Re: 88 baby my first camaro!

Hey, welcome to the boards! I'm not over here much, but I noticed it was your first camaro and I gotta say that's sharp! it looks like it's been kept in really good condition I see what you mean about like the small chips on the nose, but it looks damn near immaculate otherwise, both the interior and exterior. I'm confused though, is it a Z28 or an Iroc-Z? I know more about the 'birds than the 'maros...

Now, I know other may disagree, but with such a clean car, it would be a shame to plasti-dip those wheels man! If anything, those wheels could polish up like mirrors if I'm not mistaken. I've also heard there are replicas of the original Iroc wheels in like 17 that would add a more modern stance, while keeping the factory fresh look!

Nice car.....The seats look like 1987 style seats and the steering wheel is from a firebird.Your vert also has the rare 82-85 only console clock just like mine

Yeah thats what I get for being ADD and not fully reading it lol, you might also be able to find a decent steering wheel on the classifieds board. Actually, I have a Grant Formula GT wheel that's in nice shape I might be willing to part with if you're interested

Re: 88 baby my first camaro!

Yes the seat belt cap is the part that goes there. You have the 87-88 Rod type release but it appears that everything in missing.I have a complete rod setup along with the lever and spring clip from an 88 Camaro vert. The only thing is the release lever surround is broken on the one side.Keep in mind that these parts are extremely hard to come by as there were not very many convertibles made

Re: 88 baby my first camaro!

True , i couldnt use the cable setup without upgrading it and that cost a arm and a leg as it shows on hawks, thanks for pointing that out before i wasted my money on the regular cable pull lol, im trying to figure out if the release with one broken side would still be stable enough to pull with one side screwed in.

and this gap here , im missing something cause its not sealed properly theres a hole

Found some holes on the sub frame and driver floor its rotting like, does 1300 sound like a reasonable avg price? For a repair ?

To me that looks real clean for $1300 so I'd say it looks like a pretty dang good buy. I paid $1500 for mine and all the floors are rusted through flintstone style, not to mention the wheel wells...

Got any pics of the rot? The subframe and floor pans should be easy enough to fix especially if you want to add subframe connectors to strengthen the chassis also (which is highly recommended with these cars).

Ultimately, I honestly wouldn't worry about the price you paid. Whether you got gouged a bit or not is inconsequential unless your looking at it from a purely financial aspect. Remember, a project car is a labor of love even when the finances seem too great/tight or if it seems hopeless, neither of which seem to apply to yours.

Re: 88 baby my first camaro!

I think it got mixed up here lol i paid 4500 for the car , and i didnt get pics , but my mechanic showed me the few holes rotting and how soft it was he could jus push with hit finger and almost go through, so hes taking it to a body shop and said repairs should cost around 1300 , im trying to figure out if that repair price is reasonable lol

Hi there,
Take a look on Craigslist; you may be able to find a local welder to fix your rust spots. Should be able to fix you up for well under $1300. And lots of them will come to you! Saves you from having to get the car to their shop, especially if you pull the interior to save yourself some additional money.

Hi there,
Mine did that from nearly day one... and I bought it new from the dealership! I don't think there is much you can do about it. Just one more design flaw from ASC.

Be careful how you glue it. Part of it is supposed to stay flexible so it collapses when you put the top down into the boot for storage. If you do it wrong, your top may not store properly.

Re: 88 baby my first camaro!

Great looking car! My car had some issues with rust and my advice is do as much yourself as youcan, like gut the interior and take it to them where all they have to do is cut and repair. The cost will be reduced significantly, and you will find other issues that need to be addressed as well.

all 88-89, maybe 90? Can't remember, Z28's are irocs and vice versa. Your car has been repainted or at least the nose has been. Looks like you're gonna be cruising in style next summer.
