89 Formula Spoiler

Been a while since I last posted, but I finally got around to buying another 3rd gen.

I bought a 89 Firebird Formula and it's missing the rear spoiler.

I'm trying to keep it mostly factory. These cars are getting rare in their original condition. So my goal is to do a mild restoration, using mostly factory parts and keep it a number matching car despite all the improvements in technology that could make it a better vehicle.

To my question, I'm finding it difficult to find a factory rear spoiler for this car. I see that there are aftermarket fiberglass alternatives available. Are these aftermarket spoilers the same in appearance as the factory? I mean, can you look at the car after one is installed and tell that it's aftermarket?

If it's the same in appearance, then I'm inclined to buy one. But if it looks aftermarket, I'm inclined to keep looking until I can find a factory part.

Thanks!

The shipping on them is just crazy expensive to get up here in the northeast. I'm pushing AMES Performance to pick them up and add them to their catalog - promised I'd buy their first two if they did.

Re: 89 Formula Spoiler

The fiberglass spoiler is OK.

I was not overly thrilled with fitment. Screw holes were off by almost a foot!

It takes some work but they can be made to look good. This is before I did a bunch of fiddling and adjustment to take care of the gaps.

Shipping is a killer. I picked mine up a Classic which saved a lot of dough.

Re: 89 Formula Spoiler

Got mine at Hawkes as I drove through Easley to avoid shipping charges. In primer and quality is good. Deck holes lined up but the side attach points are not as good as factory, too thin on the metal L brackets that come with it. Can't tell it is not stock by looks though.

Re: 89 Formula Spoiler

Thanks for all the input. Looks like fiberglass is really the only option. Glad to hear that it shouldn't look any different as long as time is taken to get the correct fitment.

One last question, are they all the same, and I just need to shop price/shipping? Or is there more than one brand in the market?
