This recent review confuses me. I can barely understand 30% of what they say, but seems to me they are talking so bad about this car (TA) and so maybe about all the 3rd gen. Are my feelings correct?

I saw the review when it was released (I'm subscribed to that channel) and that channel is more about humor than cars.If you read the comments you will see there are lots of americans that like these cars.I have american friends that not only like these cars but also know their history.He made a second vid with that car in which the owner describes the mods done to the car.Its a '85 so the car is before the TPI era ( the engine you have is a TPI ).

Anyway I don't really care what americans think because I know in Europe people admire these cars.While americans are crazy after boring BMW's we in Europe pay big $ (you more than others ) to have them in top shape .Give them 5 years to see who will laugh.I have a friend in Nevada who was mind f*** to see people flock around my Firebird even thou it was parked next to a BMW F10.

 

I totally agree firebirdusx.....americans must not know whats good for em. Im american i can say it. To hell with bmw.

 

Years ago I worked with a gentleman from Switzerland. He was still driving his '67 Mustang he bought when he arrived in the US.

He told me that in Europe, BMW is considered a crap car.

 

Most BMW drivers are known for being cocky snobs full of themselves and yes those are not that great.They are great till something breaks.

well... totally disagree with BMW thoughts. BMW cars are great cars. Nothing to say about that. They might have some problems, like every car has, but overall BMW makes very performing and nice looking cars. I personally think that the current 3 Series Coupè is the best looking car today, supercars apart.

My question was different however: why do americans hate that much the 3rd gens.

FirebirdUSX is right: in Europe those cars are more or less respected. Because it's always a "second" car (not the daily driver), so it's a toy, and every toy has a price and is nice to play with. In the USA maybe the 3rd gen are the primary cars for people, and since they have a sort of low price, things become different.

I would like to find a website with performances results of the most common cars, and see what really change between 80s cars

Majority of the 3rd gens you see in the US are roached out trailer park cars. The few that are daily driven are usually done so by teenagers. There are some diamonds hiding in the ruff but they just dont command the respect....although thats starting to change. Somewhat as they age.....

Sadly its the truth. I live in rural upstate ny and there's 2 nice third gens in this town. I own one. The rest are sitting outside of deformed mobile homes and rotting houses and are missing their floor pans. sad truth. Dudes with long hair and marb lights and beards down to their ***** (exaggeration) can be seen driving them up here. Lol

 

Over here, while not highly rated among car enthusiasts, they are the cheapest 2 Dr American car on the market with the cheapest going around $7000 and averaging around $12-15000.

I get a lot of nice comments (cool car etc) about mine from general public , less so from enthusiasts.

 

Mr Regular didn't roast the thirdgen nearly as bad as he could have, there's a lot of stereotypes to draw on . If you watch more of the things on the channel (I think it's quite entertaining!), a lot of the time it's just drawing humor off the general perception of a car. A lot of time this doesn't quite mesh with everyone's perception. But like all good roasts, you have to be able to step back and have a good laugh without getting too offended .

I see/meet/talk to a bmw or benz owner they are usually a D-BAG!

Or listen to my bmw owner sister RAG about my Cadillac or old Z-28
as American POS cars while I am DRVING her to the bmw dealer/shop
AGAIN so she can whip out HUNDREDS to have her "superior" POS repaired!

 

Check Scotty Kilmer's rants about Mercedes and BMW.Most major mechanics on youtube simply hate BMW and Mercedes.Those cars don't have a dipstick ffs.That's not a bad design...that is a failed design and if you want the funny part engines after 2010 have serious problems with oil pressure .I understand that's not related to the lack of dipstick but still its funny how they failed in the oil realm.

I know a guy from Romania (country with not many highways but lots of side roads which changes the normal long term use of a car) who bought a F10 BMW and after 3 years he got a rod knock and failed main bearings after the oil overheated...they refused him warranty so he sold the car for €800....best deal ever

He got a Audi A6 now....just in time for VW scandal.I think he is crying deep inside right now

P.S.Even if I get a rod knock on the Firebird or 300m (have a chrysler too ) to fix the damn engine costs me less than the moon roof on the BMW F10 which was €880. ...yea those break too.

1988CamaroSC nailed it. Third gen's are in their "trailer park" phase right now. The first and second generation cars went through it too. There was a time you could buy a split bumper Camaro for $500, just like you can find IROC's for under $1000 now.

When I first showed up at my mom's place with my T/A, my step dad said "now that's a ******* car", which is true at the moment, but give it ten years and they'll be beloved classics.
