Custom Tunnel Ram Intake??

Has anyone seen anything like this intake before? The quality looks too good to be a homemade job, but he says it's a 'one of a kind.'

Re: Custom Tunnel Ram Intake??

Looks like a victor ram base. I like the plenum, but I'm not too wild about having the throttlebody built in.

I've been thinking about using a tunnel ram for the longest time, but I was going to do an Offy or a Weiand Hi-ram due to the longer runners and easy option of adding spacers between the runners and plenum to fine tune runner length.

That thing should run strong though.

Looks like a variation of the Holley Stealthram. One thing that is not quite right is the angle of the injectors in relation to the intake runners.

The intake runner size is better suited to a larger motor as stated in the add. Whoever did it did some nice work.

I felt the same way at first glance. But, if the built in throttle body flows enough air for some serious amounts of horsepower from the get-go, then the throttle body being built in could be very beneficial....

Re: Custom Tunnel Ram Intake??

Looks like either a edelbrock victor ram base or the holley pro ram base. Either way it's very similiar to what I've been thinking for my new motor. I'm undecided as to use a large tunnel ram base or to just build a complete sheet-metal type intake.

I would agree about having a bolt on TB. The tb is a wear item(though long term) thus needs a bit of easy to recondition the shaft/etc. Also, you would have to remove the entire plenum to access the thermostat housing. Besides, what if you wanted to change engines? You may need a different size for optimum power on a different combination.
As for the injector angle, it may be great depending on the application. If he's running large injectors he may need more time for atomization, although(usually) the best way to do so is to move them further from the port.

One way or the other it is a one-off fabrication and does look very good. Nice job to who ever fab'ed it.

Regarding my comment on the injector angle. From what I can tell it is pointing towards the other intake runner wall. From what I understand you want the injector pointing towards the back of the intake valve or in that general direction.

Maybe if you have gorilla hands. I guarantee I could fit a small wrench in there and slide it sideways without needing to remove the plenum.

I used a Holley Pro Dominator base and modified it for injector bosses and fab'd a plenum. Nice custom unit, but trust me, it's way too much work when you can buy a HSR.

Re: Custom Tunnel Ram Intake??

i was wanting to build something like that for a 302 ford. i have an offy dual quad for it. I was gonna put an injection ram from mr. gasket on the top. in the middle i was gonna put spacers made from stereolithography that held the injectors and an adaptor for the tps. the only downside i saw is that a person would have to use a map sensor, as i can figure out no way to use maf and the injection ram head.

Re: Custom Tunnel Ram Intake??

Years ago I missed out on exactly that manifold. It was listed as a lingenfelter unit but it is a marine victor ram base and cast top witg integral throttle body. I still regret not clicking buy it now. Some guy on 2nd gen z28 forum got it and I dont think he ever used it. I have seen 2 maybe 3 different ones over the years. If it is the marine one it will have coated water jackets
