History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
Nice to know no major work needed on the engine and also saves a bit on the budget when engine rebuilds are not needed! Carb was leaking badly so it will need a rebuild for sure, now just need to find someone in southern Ontario that can rebuild it.
Fuel tank drain will be next step (notice the nice Pop bottle fuel tank rigged for the startup), fuel was so old it smelled like paint thinner not gas. Then Racing exhaust and then front suspension install of the Brembo's.
In 86, it was a bypass in front of the cat that exited in front of the rear tire. Open pipe. Finished with a 70 chevelle SS tailpipe no less.
and in 1987, they added a driver's side pipe ... just to the fans on the other side of the race track got the same sweet sound (that is from the GM Engineer I spoke too ... not for performance, but for the fans).
Mark.

Here are the photos of the side exhaust I have. I have a few of the single passenger side outlets and one of the 87 and up dual setups. I will take better pictures once installed and I know Mark has a new dual setup pictured on the site as well.
On a side note while digging through some photos found pictures of my first 3rd gen the Indy Pace Car and my second 3rd gen a GTA. I remember trying to save the money to attend the Spenard/David racing school in Shannonville before I got the pace car and that would have been 1988-1989 at the height of the series. This is when it all started for me on these cars.
I tried to get that 'Pontiac' windshield decal on my first car (91 Grand Prix GTP) and the place I took it to absolutely BUTCHERED it.
Nice cars man! And good work on the T/A
Well its been my busy time at work so the car hasn't had much time spent on it lately. Carb is now off and being redone and should be able to make some progress over the next 2 weeks. I have set the end of June 2015 as a due date for me to drive the car up the street! Now it's in print and I cant change it. Here are some photos of the carb, nothing special done to it according to the guy rebuilding it, and he said its the worst he had seen and couldn't believe it would run with it on.
Well busy night, everything out of the way and ready to drop the tank and pictures of the rebuilt carb. Also added photos of the rear roll bar mounting holes. Question for any players car owners, any special bolts or nuts used on these? Looks like it will be way easier to bolt in now with the tank out. Mark_ZZ3 any input on the roll bar stuff?? Thanks
I don't recall any special bolts. The cages in later years were installed by the teams, so certainly a variety of bolts could have been used. Kerr Industries would have used all the same ones for all the cars. I would ensure you have all the same, fixed with the same fasteners and washers. If the bolts were provided by GM, then they would have been metric ... but Kerr may have also used Metric.
Time has not been on my side, making slow progress on the fuel tank but have exhaust ready to go back, new fuel pumps installed so with any luck i can get this beast fired up soon. So much for the June deadline!!! Mark_ZZ3 found these in my box of parts..bottom roll bar brackets with bolts attached. I should send out an invitation to any Southern Ontario members that would like to stop by for a "beverage" and help me go through all my boxes of parts and help get them organized??
Had to share a good story today as well...I'm always searching sites and looking for stuff that has to do with the Series. I emailed a person that had posted some items for sale and after some questioning from him if I really had a players car he agreed to meet me today. Turns out he was an big part of the series and had these items but only wanted them to go to someone with a car. After some good conversation and sharing of info he gave me 4 original Players decals, one new exhaust cover with bolts, a cool banner that I will use when at shows, a framed picture from the Quebec Grand Prix that Ron Fellows won, some jacket pins and an original jacket.
Dennis Thank-You so very much.
Well had to post another video, the car is now running properly!! Gas tank flushed and reinstalled with some Sunoco 98 Race Fuel. Rebuilt carb now back on as well as new muffler and tail pipes. Race y pipe installed with the single side exhaust but missing the extension due to the lift arm in the way. Now it sounds like a race car and one step closer to getting back on the road after almost 28 years of sitting...Ah I love the smell of race fuel in the evening!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuZS...ature=youtu.be
Well its been almost one year since I purchased the 1986 Players Trans Am and over 28 years since the car was last driven. Today I took the car up the road for my first drive !!! A very happy and exciting day for me .
Now its time to start getting the roll bar, race seat and window net installed.
The Trans Am is put away for the winter. I have decided that I'm going to do a full restoration and put the race engine back in it. So I'll send out the race engine this winter to have it gone over as its been sitting so long, and then I'll start on the body this summer. My winter project is putting together my 1987 Players Camaro I purchased. It's was just a roller but found a G92 donor car and will be swapping over the interior and drive train. Also located a Players roll bar so just need a seat. Going to do up the Camaro like Ron Fellows Motomaster car from 1987. Here are some photos, maybe I'll start a new thread for the Camaro?
Does anyone have a extra Brembo caliper mounting bracket I could get my hands on ?
Want to take some measurements of it for my project and then return it.
Thought I would start a thread to document my car and its return to the road. The car has been sitting for many years so it will need a complete going over but fortunately I have alll the parts and even the rare parts that should have been returned at the end of the season. I will start the thread with a picture of the car when I picked it up and when it was new, hopefully when its all done it will look like it was in 1986.
Very cool to see that car again that was my car originally myself and my brother raced it in the series I set fast time in that car the very first season
