I have a 1985 Pontiac firebird and whenever I give it full throttle from a stop it won't shift out of first and will just rev out until I let off. I tried shifting the car manually but even then it would rev out when I would shift it from first to second, I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and could tell me how to fix it if it's the detent cable or if there are bigger issues in the transmission. Make sure your fluid level is correct (you need to check it correctly)

and

Your TV cable is set correctly

 

Do you want the little black part that comes out of the TV cable to be in as far as it can go or how should that be set?
