Not a problem.

I'm sure you will do fine. It's definitly a lot of fun building up engines. I've built a lot of v8 before but this 385 I have now is actually the first v8 that has ever been in my camaro in the 15 years ive owned the car. It's been turbocharged for many years but I'll admit the v8 is fun. Power right now. And being carburated, it's east to dial in. Not too much that can go wrong. I actually run 11.1:1 compression with the dart iron heads on pump 93 gas. No spark knock at all. Timings set to 34 degrees btdc max. So it's on the verge of race gas but so far I don't see that I need to use it.

Have you decided to make it carburated?
If so and you go with a 383 with a good size cam, a 750 carb would be about perfect.

Yes, we have decided to go with a Holley 750 cfm four-barrel carb. But may change our mind by the time we get there. We are a far way off from the carb. ☺

For what you're building a 750cfm carb isn't TOO much but it is excessive. Vortec heads aren't going to feed those cubes through a very high rpm and a 650-680cfm carb will feed a 400hp engine easily. I'm building an AFR headed 383 with more cam and if a 700-725 can carb was available would've gone with that instead of a 750. Look at Quickfuel over Holley too. Same design as a Holley and all the features and materials of the high dollar models for an entry level Holley price.

Thanks SilverChicken. It seems you are absolutely right. As I said before, we are way off from needing a carb, but will keep it in mind. A Quickfuel 650 CFM looks like a winner. Thanks again for all of your great suggestions. I will keep everyone up to date on our progress. We have done very little since the Cruise In’s season started in May.

Well, the cold weather is beginning to set in here in NE Ohio. Our 89 Camaro is covered in the garage until spring. We put in a 2500 stall converter this spring, shifts great, no more stalling at stop lights. We have some interior work that needs done and audio issues that developed over the summer...speakers gone bad. We enjoyed all of the local cruise-ins and got some more ideas for our motor. We are getting back into the 383 build we started last winter.

I am building the same engine for my 91. I put new crank, cam and rod bearings in it. Im having the heads done at a shop, they are going to just look over them good and put a set of studs in them and then a set of roller rockers. I plan on going with a slightly bigger cam but not sure what to get. When you find out what you wanna do keep us all posted. I tried to start a thread about doing the same exact thing and got no one to help me out. so best of luck bud and ill post pics as soon as I can.

Hey MyNasty91, look back through this thread. I have gotten a lot of good advice from other members. I am going with a 282 hydro roller Cam.
I look forward to hearing more from ya.

That's a great cam for a street somewhat strip car. You will really enjoy it in sure of it. Glad that the members here can help offer advice.

I'll stand by my advice that the xr282hr you have coming will compliment your set up very very well. It'll make hp up to 5800-6k which is more then enough for what you have.
