I also contacted him, although he's a nice guy and very informative, he just bought a used set on ebay. But there ain't one anymore. Is there anybody else expirienced enough to make some sets? I think there are enough buyers. I'd pay a good price. If there is someone who wants to sell his, just let me know, I'll pay well...
Hey, I know that pic, lol
So happy to have those rings around my gauges.
Our dear friend Luis Hernandez Jr. had his 84's dash measured for those trim rings and then had them milled by a local company in limited quantities.
That was BEFORE some d*ckhead caused him to leave these boards!
He sold the remaining sets on eBay and I don't know if he would disclose the measurements to the public.
Perhaps if you'd gather up a handful of people, designated a spokesman and asked him very nicely via his Google+ account, he may go and have some more sets produced.
Just don't let the douche who p*ssed him off do it!
Keep in mind though that there is a fitment issue with the later style bezel and the rings, as the bezel is curved, whereas the rings are flat.
Some guys secured them with thick rubber bands around the rings, I tried several glues and adhesive tapes, heated the bezel to flatten a bit and used pressure to keep the rings in place until the glue/adhesive dried.
After a while they always pop out at the top and/or bottom.
So... that's where they came from and why you can't find them anywhere.
Just wanted to let you guys know.
I've got my lathe up and running now, so I'd just like to find out what dimensions people think look the best. I found somebody who said the inside of the rings measures 3 15/16".
I've measured my gauge opening at about 4.155", with a depth to the clear lens of about 0.52". Anybody else want to check some measurements on their car to see if there is some variance?
I'm thinking an outside width of 4.5", giving just over 1/4" ring around the gauge. Just not sure how proud of the surface I should make them. Right now I'm thinking of having them stand 1/4" proud.
I'm thinking of cutting a sample tomorrow, so let me hear what you guys think is most aesthetically pleasing. I can use the tools, but I don't have what is called "an artist's eye".
I have some solid stock on hand to cut a trial ring, but I'll be getting some aluminum tube or schedule 80 pipe to cut the rest of the rings as it will save some money. 5.5" solid stock is pricey.
Family time got in the way today and I have some work to do in the house tomorrow, but hopefully I'll get at least 1 ring cut. I was hoping to hear some size opinions from other members, but I guess I'll just go with the measurements I have taken.
Press fit. For a long term solution, I'd probably use a dab or two of silicon, would still peal off if you decided to remove them and go back to stock. I haven't decided yet.
Yes, rgauder, you do.
Now take orders and start producing them at a fair price. I would want a set in Sch.40 though.
Thanks! You been nominated!!!! Super! How much? JK!

My supplier doesn't have Sch. 40, but if you give me the measurements you want, I can do it. Nobody wants to give me any measurements. Now that I'm in the club can I have the measurements? I could probably do $125.
