1. Do you have or can you do a UX1?
2. Can you also install pre-amp outputs for connection to aftermarket amplifiers and allows the use of the factory volume ****?
2. Can you also install pre-amp outputs for connection to aftermarket amplifiers and allows the use of the factory volume ****?
Thanks!
That's easy. You just need a line-out converter. Speaker wires go in, RCAs come out. Works so-so if you adjust it right. The weak link is still the OE head unit. I ran an FM CD changer and subs off a Delco deck for awhile, ultimately decided the flexibility of an aftermarket deck was worth giving up the stock unit. Sound quality was much better with a Pioneer deck.
Yeah, actually that's not a good solution for sound quality. Low level amplified internally back down with the converter and then up again at the external amp results in poor quality. The internal pre-amp out It can be done, it's not hard once the correct location is found inside the radio.
The Delco-Bose units actually put out this pre-amp level and are ready to go directly into aftermarket amps.
Do you mod these radios yourself? If so can I send my radio to you to have aux/BT added?
Yes,.... I've installed these AUX jacks myself. I have not yet offered to install an AUX jack into anyone else's radio yet and there are only a few types of Radios that I have added the AUX jack too. Not sure how I feel about this yet; At least 1/3 of the radio I have shipped to me get busted up during shipping due to poor/inadequate packing. The LAST thing I'd want is for a radio to arrive here for the Mod and find it was damaged before I even touched it. Let me think it over for awhile.

I do not have a factory stock 1984 Firebird radio. I believe I've got a couple later year Firebird Radios that have the early style plugs, and maybe 1-2 that use the later 89+ style plugs. Let me check into it so I pass along accurate info and then get back to you.

Yes,...... I have -and can- install an AUX into a EQ deck. I VERY MUCH prefer to install the AUX on a cable for the EQ head-units as there is not many good options when it comes to mounting an AUX on the face - but it is possible. Installing the AUX on a cable is less "risky" than a face-plate install because if the AUX hole isn't just right in the face-plate the face-plate can/will be ruined.
No,.... I do not do any other modifications.
I had sent off my own radios to another member here back in December so that I could get an AUX jack installed in my own radios,..... but after waiting 4 months to get my radios back I got anxious & learned how to install the AUX Jacks myself. ( Got 1 radio back working OK, The other radio had several significant problems, including a non-functional AUX jack !?!? it was sent back for corrective action almost a month ago,.... and I'm STILL waiting for it. ) Now I've got a few radios with the AUX jack installed so I figured it was a good time to offer a couple of them for sale cheap here for other members.
When my 89 IROC Z Vert project come up to the top of my "to do" list, I'll be interested in a Delco, AM/FM/CD w/ aux jack. My SPID is missing and I don't know what stereo it came with. I think it has 4 speakers. (It's sitting at my brother place).
Don't think Camaro got the CD player till 90. IIRC GM started putting CD players in some cars in 89,..... but very few. ( Beretta ?, Caprice ? Maybe a Buick or 2 ? )
In any case; finding an 1989 model CD player - even stock without an AUX - will not be easy & you might be left with picking something a little newer. You should look around to figure out exactly what type of Delco head-unit you're going to want so that when the time comes, your ready.
This classified was written to offer the cassette decks with AUX that are pictured. I do have some other 80s & 90s decks as well so If anyone needs a specific radio,... please PM those requests.
I've got that style BOSE head unit with an AUX on a cable,.... and 1 with an AUX in the face. I've only placed an AUX jack into radios that I personally own at this point. Allow me to boast for a moment - I'm proud of this one !
I'm not a professional & I do not fully service radios; I'm a novice that knows how to add an AUX and solder in good bulbs to the older 80's head-units. While I will not hesitate to replace a dead cassette deck,..... I do not replace circuit board parts, lube the mechanisms or other things that a "pro" might do. These are used radio that have been restored, not re-built with all new parts. I hope to get better and learn more, but that's where things stand right now.
Servicing other peoples radios isn't something I was prepared to do and would need to work out the details and limitations before I would be ready to take on that responsibility. My primary concern is shipping; At least 25% of the radios that get shipped to me have some type of damage due to poor packing. (While a radio will fit into a medium flat rate package - it's got to be packed 'right' or it will get damaged.) I understand that someone shipping THIER OWN radio would be much more careful about packing,... it's something that still requires consideration. Pricing and turn-around time are also significant factors that need to be discussed & agreed upon in advance.
This is probably WAY more than you expected to read as a reply,..... but writing this out now will mean that other members that find their way to this thread will have a full understanding of my abilities and procedures. Give me a chance to consider your request for awhile.
Pretty sure I still do,... don't think I put a AUX in all the EQ decks. almost certain that it would have been pulled from a early nineties Blazer - still the same EQ deck that was used in the Camaros.
Let me check into it later today and I'll update this thread later tonight.
Sorry not 100% sure what all the different types of radios are, but do you have this one eith with or without the aux? If so how much? And how much to ship to 15229?
This head unit is in very good condition, I pulled it from an 94 Jimmy and replaced the cassette deck with a functional mechanism & probably replaced a bulb or 2 as well. I wanted to get the pic to you ASAP so I didn't re-test yet; It was fully tested before getting put into storage and I'll re-test it again if it's what your looking for. Send me a PM with an offer and your shipping ZIP code if you're seriously interested
punzak9:
What radio are you talking about ?? Your post didn't include any pictures and there are about 5 radios pictured above so I don't know what one your looking for !?!?
I've got that style BOSE head unit with an AUX on a cable,.... and 1 with an AUX in the face. I've only placed an AUX jack into radios that I personally own at this point. Allow me to boast for a moment - I'm proud of this one !
You are either really stupid, really brave, have a huge set of cojones, or all the above to preform surgery on that radio lol!
Those berlinetta radios were sketchy at best when they were new! Bravo Sir... Bravo...
punzak9: I do have one of those, ( Grey station and Orange power buttons ) but it needs help and it's not ready for sale. Might take me a little while to get that one ready,... it needs the cassette mech replaced and I want to put a few good buttons on it. I'll need to get a good cassette mech before I can have it ready - if you want me to send you a head-up once it's fully functional again just say the word.
* The radio I've got is from an 87 so it uses the 3 large and 1 small plugs. Your 90 probably uses the 3 smaller plugs ??
jharrison5: Ya',... I was pretty worried about tearing into my Berlinetta head unit. Had NO idea where to even start when I began that project but I was pretty tired of all the 'skipping' that the CD changer caused and was determined to figure out the AUX to replace the Changer. One of the best mods I've ever made to my interior !
Greg; I'll be sending you a PM update in a little while !
Actually i just looked at my cars rpo code and it came with a UX1 radio. Not sure what tadios fit or can plug into which cars so i probably just wanted to go stock. That other radio just looked so fimiliar that i thought it was it from my old car. Do you have any UX1 radios ready eith with or without the aux?
punzak9: Pretty sure that I've still got a UX1 that doesn't have the AUX,..... Almost positive that I've got one with the AUX too. I'll update this thread once I can get a look at them and know what kind of condition they are in.
Tootie: I DO have a BOSE unit with an AUX. I think that one pictured is the early type and pretty sure the one I've got is from a 89. Are you more interested in the remote ( cable ) mounted AUX or a face-plate mounted AUX ??
For BOTH of you guys...... Post your ZIP so I can use it to get shipping quotes if needed.
Marck; I'm not that well versed yet,... I just began to work thru the Delco decks about 4-5 months ago so I've still got a lot to learn ! ( Sorry I can't help ! )
Zak / Pootie; I've got to put this off for a least a day,.... Just got in the house and once I'm done eating/cleaning up it's going to be late - and I've got another early morning to prepare for. I WILL have more info posted here tomorrow for Ya'!!
** Zak,..... glad I logged in tonight, I had forgot that your ride was a Firebird !
kevwalt22; I don't have the Buick version of the UX1,... IIRC it's basically the same radio as the Camaro UX1 with silver buttons and a white wire/plug coming out of the back of it. I do have several Buick UM6 decks ( with and without AUX ), but none of them have an EQ.
Right now I'm sitting at my campsite,... first time posting from my phone. The reason you didn't hear from me as I expected is because I HAD to put all my time into preparing my house before leaving for camping. Seems like that would be easy, but all the windows, siding, and front door were removed last week.
Back to to the point !
while pre-packing last night I DID check and found 1 Firebird UXI as well as a 93 Trans Am CD with E\Q, and a 98 Pontiac Cd with E/Q. I do have a couple MU6 decks too but they have black pe-set buttons.
Your 90 should use the " small plug" harness and all the radios I mentioned do too.
I also pulled out an 86 BOSE radio with AUX too, but like the other radios,.... I did not have time to inspect them or get pics.
Thats fine John, hope youre enjoying yourself. If you have a UX1 ready to go either with or without the aux then i think im your guy for it. I'd like to keep my car pretty stock looking.
Yes Tootie,... I have,... Sorry to you and Punzak9 too. Had to focus on personal needs for awhile and haven't been able to begin any new transactions for a while as a result.
Tootie; If your interested in one of those BOSE head units,..... just send me a PM with an offer and include your ZIP for a shipping quote.
** I've got a BOSE CD player too - but no AUX in that one !
Punzak; Here are a couple pics of Pontiac EQ style radios that you might be interested in.
The deck on the far LEFT is a newly rebuild/refurbished ( MNR electronics IIRC) unit,... the other 3 are used/restored factory decks. (1 was modified with an AUX jack.). I did not have time to plug them in this morning, but they should all still be in fully functional condition. As always; I'll test the one you choose once I know what one you prefer. If any of those radios are what you're looking for than just send me a PM to let me know what one you like and we can go from there.
Up-to-date with all PM's ! Still have some info to collect but everyone has been contacted by reply PM at this point.
Have other GM ( Olds, Buick, Pontiac, Chevy, Cadillac ) radios too. Some cassette some CD, some AUX, some stock,..... send a PM if your looking for something specific.
P.S. Also have a small collection of BOSE stuff, so if you need any BOSE Speakers or AMPS just LMK. *** I have NO factory Thirdgen Speaker boxes !!!
Ryan, Don't know how I missed your message here,.... I didn't get a notification and haven't visited this Post for awhile. I've got a CD player that you might be interested in and will send you a PM update with some details ASAP. ( Expect a day or 2,... VERY busy due to the holidays !) Pretty sure I've caught up with everyone else at this point so if anyone is waiting on me for anything, please send me a reminder !
Still have various 80's & 90's GM head units available. Chevy, Buick, Olds, Pontiac, some cassette, some CD, some BOSE, some with EQ, some with AUX. Send PM if you need something specific.
** P.S. I'm still not installing AUX jacks in 86-93 'CDM' type radios. Just too much going on right now to get into messing around inside that kind of radio yet.
