1991 Firebird Memorabilia

As with many of us on here, I like to collect various sales related memorabilia related to my '91 GTA and my '92 T/A convertible. Most of us know about the usual magazine ad that is in the Media section of TGO and of the regular sales brochure from the dealership. But there is a lot of other items out there that serious collectors know about that the rest of us are oblivious too. So I figured I'd share many of the items that I have to show others what is out there for them to maybe search for if they want. Hopefully some of you will have other items that we are unaware of as well. I would like to keep this thread related to the '91-92 Firebird line. If successful, maybe other threads for different thirdgen memorabilia can be created for like-bodied groups (i.e. 91-92 'Birds, 82-84 'Birds, 85-90 'Birds, and whatever groupings the Camaros associate themselves with, etc.). I'll post some now and then some more later as I get pics of them.

I'll kick it off with the order sheet.

This photo is very reminiscent of the U.S. brochure, but with Firebird rims on a GTA.

Not my poster, but a nice one I saw somewhere. If you have this one, or know where to get one, please PM me and let me know.

I do have a poster, but not a good photo of it. As soon as I get a good photo, I will post it.

I have the fleet guide binder for 91. As well as the color and interior book. I have the 91 Firebird brochure and the standard showroom 91 Pontiac brochure. I have some of the dealer posters. Have a few press kit firebird photos in color frame.

I have a few other things as well. Just waiting to get good photos. I think I have the same binder as you. I'll post some pics soon so we may compare. This is exactly why I wanted to post this stuff: so we can compare info and see what else is out there.

Re: 1991 Firebird Memorabilia

I'm just glad to see Grace Jones is still finding work.

It's interesting how the Japanese folder seems to have photos that aren't in any of the other GM materials. Like they actually photo'd a production export vehicle. I love how the TPI photo appears to have a zip tie around the throttle cable retainer clip.

I've got a few pieces that aren't already posted, if I can find time to dig them out and take some scans or photos.

Re: 1991 Firebird Memorabilia

The export vehicles had a different radio to conform to the frequencies used in Japan. Notice the TA deck looks like a Camaro deck. I found a japan export Camaro convert (1990) that was brought back to Canada. Had the paddle mirrors, but radio was CDN. Too bad as the export one would have been neat to hold on to.

Mark.

Interesting stuff. Thanks for posting.

I never knew the Japanese export package had a little GM chicklet / badge on fenders under the body side molding.

in addition to the paddle mirrors, Japan export had the protruding front side marker lights as well. Try finding a set of those!

Re: 1991 Firebird Memorabilia

The more I look at the export photos, the more unique details stand out... Like the aerowing on base Firebirds, the fender flares on the black GTA, the base Firebird tails on Trans Ams and GTAs. The 15" 20 slot wheel photochopped onto the Firebird with the directional Gatorback tire is good for a chuckle. Weird how some countries required different parts.

Who in their right mind looks at that level of detail in a brochure? I seem to miss so much that you guys find. Once brought to my attention, it's obvious, but I would never see it on my own.

If you ever want to sell the poster of the yellow car or that other framed print, I am interested.

yeesh....Hard to look at that black GTA with horrific fender flares, Paddle mirrors, Base tail lights.

Always have known for years that the EXPORT cars had weird options on them. But it's cool to see an actual factory brochure !!

A customer of mine in Switzerland has a '92 Trans am and it came with the the base Firebird taillights. but has the regular side mirrors.

Not sure if i will ever sell the Firebird Vital spec poster, and the yellow 92 poster comes up on eBay on average twice a year but there's normally snipe bidders on that poster so its difficult to win unless you put in some really high bid. This pic is an example of what im talking about. It was up to $75 with in the last second and then $131 hidden bid won. The 91 comes up only so often every few years.

ref german brochure; headlight adjustment dial located on the passenger side of the centre console looks interesting. Wonder how that was hooked up to adjust the headlights and if anyone has any information on it

Don't see that, but that's an interesting deal. I was a co-author of an export supplement for Astro vans in the mid '90s. That van had a system for leveling the headlamps when towing...just a dial you turned. Was fun to play with. Was just a power adjusted headlamp mounting bucket.

Yes, and the different frequencies for the radio, as also mentioned.

Was the exhaust configuration the same? Japan is unique, as some euro markets, too, on other vehicles. Are there differences here on F-bodies?

Oh, and my 2c., the fender flares look horrible on anything but black, and even then, not great.

Re: 1991 Firebird Memorabilia

Hey Eldon, Thanks for showing a LOT of the brochures you got from me. It brings back so many memories of my 1991 Formula.I didn't realize how much RARE stuff I collected over the 23 years that I had that. A lot of those items I bought when the car was just a few years old (cheap) and how the prices went up when they were Few and Far between on eBay. The car model that I built is all that I have left of my Showcar! I do have ONE 1991 Firebird brochure that was printed in Canada with the Player's Ltd. Motorsports series picture on the back cover and a Press issue of the 1991 Pontiac Motorsports Grand Prix with photos of all the 6 different drivers (Richard Petty is one) and cars.

with 3rdgens becoming one of the quintessential 80's darlings, the banshee restyle I suppose is a bit less regarded to the more straight-edged 82-90 firebird designs. But, at certain angles, its a well executed attempt to keep the car contemporary for the period and that for the most part integrates well with the lines originally penned around two decades prior.

If you admire the 1988 Banshee, that is my ALL TIME favorite Concept car. I have a VERY RARE 12"x 10" Public Relations Department folder. In it you'll find 24 Black and White 8"x 10" photos which include the original drawings/clay mock-ups/interior/motor and different angles pf the car being driven. Plus there are 14 FULL COLOR slides and 10 pages of "NEWS FROM PONTIAC". There are detailed specifications to include interior features, such as steering wheel-lights-wipers-performance pack-dash cluster-seats-doors-column-pedals and entertainment. PHEW, I REALLY WANT THIS CAR.

Re: 1991 Firebird Memorabilia

I have no idea what's on the tapes, but the two pages below are part of the set. The full set has three cassettes covering a variety of Pontiacs for 91, along with a packet of cheat sheets for the same, all packed in what could pass for a 1990 Blockbuster Video VHS case. I'd expect the tapes just go over what's listed on the sheets, but since I don't have a cassette player....

I wasn't really after the tapes, but they came with a bunch of other sales memorabilia, most of which is pictured in this thread. There's still more out there that I know of, but at this point I'm just going over the same material in different formats. I'm a bit frugal about buying reference materials, and often sellers think they have gold.

Canadian English Brochure, there's most likely a French version out there as well looking the same as I got both from other years (I collect everything 1982 - 1992 with special focus on 1989) ...

My 1991 poster (I'm pretty sure I remember this being the 1991 one maybe someone can confirm).

Its a 92, but yours looks like a smaller version that a salesman would have a his desk. The big dealer posters would of been 36x24 in size. The red GTA was the 91 poster, yellow was 92.
