Quadrajet CCC carb choke set up

Figured i would make a thread in the carburetor section, i was having major running rich and poor perfomance problems so doing some reading, i learned how to properly set up the internals of my Quadrajet and set tbe dwell. But i did not do anything with the choke, i have the Thexton 2500 tool set that comes with basically everything i need for the Quadrajet, and i looked at the sticky for the carb service information but i do not understand the procedure to set the choke. Also says to look at underhood sticker for fast idle setting which has been removed from my car sometime before i got her. Car fast idles at 1000-1200 and when i disengage fast idle if the car is not at full operating temp idle will drop to 400 and rough. im pretty sure the choke system needs some adjusting

before fiddling with anything else, try tightening the choke cover a hair to keep the choke engaged a little longer. undo the three screws that were installed in place of the factory rivets and twist it a few degrees against the spring resistance.

the choke will open at different rates depending on outside temps.

1000-1200 high idle is in the OK range.

other choke adjustments are to the vacuum break. you can adjust how much the vacuum break cracks open the choke after engine start up (choke should stay completely closed until the motor starts and vacuum is applied to the choke pull off, cracking open the choke a hair). if your car is now starting and running OK with the choke on, leave this alone for now.
