History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
My question is - was there a power Recaro seat option Trans Ams?
Backstory if you are interested, I have an 83 base TA with standard power seats. I came across a set of manual Recaro seats from an 83 Daytona pace car that I would like to swap in. Obviously an easy swap, but then I will loose the power seat option...so I am just wondering if I should keep looking for a power recaro seat or if it doesnt exist. I want to car to appear as factory as possible (even though I am swapping a few parts in so I know its not originally anyways)
Yes they did. Very rare. Same seat track and seat bezel cover as the fancy camaro Lier sigler seats . As you can see in the picture. It was A totally different track and bezel from the standard powered seats. The tan recaros in the first picture have a powered track if you look closely.
Well dang, the two answers I was hoping for was either:
1. No
2. Yes and the regular power seat setup would just swap in
I guess I will just be switching from power to manual recaro seats.
thank you for the information and 3rd gen lesson!!
ya when ever you see one for sale you gotta buy them. I have the alert pop up on my phone from eBay. I have like 3 or 4 right now. All need to be restored. Realistically if you just find the bezel and the fancy bracket that holds it. You could probably use a standard Powered seat track, and just weld or bolt the bracket to the track at the appropriate factory spot. Never tried it though. I have paid $150 for the bezel and bracket, and from 150 to 300 for a full powered track. Not cheap. But there is nothing cheap about a vintage recaro seat build of any kind.
Question... If he already has a power seat track from his base seats, can he just install that track on the Recaros? Or is fabrication needed for something I'm missing? The power is only adjusting the track and does not involve anything with the seat, correct?
The problem appears to be that the housing piece is different so even if I can get all the mechanical stuff swapped it would be finding the trim piece and mounting bracket for the controls to the seat track (which appears to be further in front on the recaro seat vs the standard seat)
