Help me verify if this is a paddle mirror GTA (RPO DD9)

Help me verify if this is a paddle mirror GTA (RPO DD9)
I picked up a parts car a couple weeks ago and was looking through the interior and found a set of the euro style paddle mirrors inside. I was hesitant to believe the car was a GTA let alone an early paddle mirror car. The sticker is missing from the center console so no help there.
I waited until I got the invoice from GMmediaarchive before posting anything on the car. The invoice shows the Y84 code for the GTA package but nothing about the mirrors. The date on the invoice is 11-25-86 so it should have been built prior to the changeover to the sport mirrors (January I think). Am I correct to believe that the rpo is not on the invoice because it was part of the y84 "package" ?
This is the top of the invoice from GM. Any and all help on this is appreciated, many of you on here have done research on these cars and I have tried to find as much as possible on the site but would really like feedback on what I may or may not have here.
Re: Help me verify if this is a paddle mirror GTA (RPO DD9)
I would say that's at least possible, if not likely. I don't see the RPO for Ultima seats (AQ9) on there either, which would also have been standard with Y84.
Re: Help me verify if this is a paddle mirror GTA (RPO DD9)
I don't think the Y84 present explains the lacking DD9 code. The invoice lists the W62 aero package, which was standard on the GTA. So was the J50 front disc brakes, also listed.
The RPO list in the invoice is incomplete, as often is the case, and you would have seen more RPO codes on the SPID sticker. Even though AQ9 seats were standard with the Y84, as was things like WS6, those things was still noted on the SPID sticker.

Remember, the car began as a Trans Am, which is why RPO W62, standard on a TA, was listed on the invoice, without charge. The car became a GTA due to the addition of the Y84 package: TA + Y84 = GTA. I know you know this, so just clarifying.
So, yes, the Y84 on the invoice does, indeed, account for all of its specific RPOs, such as seats, mirrors, wheels, etc., not being present on the invoice, as the prices for all of those RPOS are already included in the price of the Y84 package. However, all RPOs, including those specific to the Y84 package, such as DD9, would be broken-out, individually, on the SPID label, as you stated. Unfortunately, that label is missing.
Another telltale item on that invoice is the credit for the LB9 engine, as the Y84 package included the L98.
Re: Help me verify if this is a paddle mirror GTA (RPO DD9)
You got me on that though it is odd to me to list a without charge item as the W62 since it was standard. By that token so was all the other Y84 parts.
From the 1987 order sheet, this was part of the Y84 package:
Articulating Seats with Custom Trim
GTA Exterior Ornamentation
Power Paddle Type Mirrors
NP5 Leather Appointment Group
B2L 5.7 Engine
PW7 16" Gold Diamond Spoke Wheels
QDZ Tires
WS6
KC Engine Oil Cooler
J65 Four Wheel Disc Brakes (Exc. LB9 with Auto)
G80
B34
Everything else is basically optional - such the optional power windows - since the 1987 GTA was the only year the GTA could be ordered "stripped".
The conclusion would appear to suggest this GTA did have the paddle type mirrors.

This was the information I was going off of out of my product book I have for 1987 along with the searching on the forum.
The car has some damage in the rear quarter and tail panel area but I wanted to find out more after stumbling on the mirrors inside. I would hate to cut up a 1 of 200 ish car that is saveable even with a bit of rust/damage.
Re: Help me verify if this is a paddle mirror GTA (RPO DD9)
Hi I know this is a little late to the party, but I wanted to answer the OP question.
I have a verified DD9 Paddle Mirror 87 GTA, built in Norwood Ohio, and Delivered to Atlantic City, NJ. I also have my dealer invoice from the GM Heritage center. Unfortunately, the invoice does not have all of the RPO codes that would be on the SPID sticker in the console, and the DD9 mirrors are not on the invoice. They are on my SPID sticker. See the attached photos of my invoice and SPID sticker.

Scooter,
well no im not interested. Actually I’m looking for a passenger side. Some *** broke my passenger side. He is going to pay for it, assuming I can find parts or it’s fixable.
i love my DD9 car. T tops, 305 and a 5 speed. Some guys don’t like them. I think they are the best looking GTAs ever.

Re: Help me verify if this is a paddle mirror GTA (RPO DD9)
Tim and Jim,
Love those paddle mirror GTAs.
Just so you know, in 1988 only seven (7) export GTAs were built with DD9, and in 1989, there were no export GTAs with DD9. I provide the 1988-89 FB, Formula, and TA export DD9 totals in my book, page 62.
Jim: I see that your GTA, VIN 19524, was shipped 12-12-86. Was it built in November? What date does your door edge Certification label indicate?
Tim: Was your VIN lower or higher than Jim's 19524? What date does your door edge Certification label indicate?
Re: Help me verify if this is a paddle mirror GTA (RPO DD9)
Shiftman, my VIN is 219524 which indicates it was built on Julian date 219 which is August 7, 1986. It was built at the Norwood plant and delivered to F C Kerbeck Cadillac Pontiac in Atlantic City NJ. As for the door sticker, my door was changed, I have the door that was on the car but that sticker is missing. The VIN tag is on the door so at least it was the original door.
as to the production numbers, I’m not sure how accurate they are. The guy I bought my spare mirrors from said that all Firebirds in Slovenia had them. He said he had a 92 GTA that had them and he put US teardrop mirrors on his car. He is in Slovenia.
Re: Help me verify if this is a paddle mirror GTA (RPO DD9)
Tim: Thank you. Good to know.
Jim: GM VINs never indicated the build date. Somebody misinformed you. The number of which we are speaking (219524) is decoded as follows.
2 = This is a placeholder for 3rd Gen Firebird models for 1983-84, the first few months of 1985, and 1986-92. The "2" placeholder was not used in 1982 (5 was used) and later 1985 production (6 was used). 3rd Gen Camaros did not use this placeholder. For 1987, Camaros used a 1 placeholder.
19524 = is the sequential build sequence number. Your GTA was the 19,524th (Pontiac) car that came down the Norwood line for the 1987 model year. The cars sequentially before yours could have been base Firebirds, Formulas, Trans Ams, or GTAs.
The Slovenia mirror issue (all export GTAs had them but they were not counted) is possible. However, DD9 was counted on export Firebirds, Formulas, and Trans Ams. There were some export countries which did not require breakaway mirrors. My production numbers are from Pontiac's 1988-89 GTA production records.
Re: Help me verify if this is a paddle mirror GTA (RPO DD9)
I imported 92 GTA, 92 Firebird and 89 Formula from Germany. 92 GTA and Firebird had DD9 paddle mirrors on, 89 Formula didn't. I can check RPO for GTA, for other two there is no RPO sticker anywhere.
Re: Help me verify if this is a paddle mirror GTA (RPO DD9)
Great!
Nice ride!
So, now we know that the European export GTAs were built with DD9 and DD9 was recorded on the SPID label.
Some cool information from your SPID label:
RPO EXP: export
RPO MAE: Marketing Area, Europe
RPO 192: Black leather seats
My Firebird book, page 141, indicates only 43 MAE units with DD9. In other words, only 43 units of 1992 GTAs were shipped to Europe. All 43 had DD9.
Also, in the book, page 134, it indicates only 81 units of RPO 192 Black leather seats total production (worldwide).
Novak, I am not sure which country would be less expensive to ship from, but you can buy my book on Amazon.de (Germany) or Amazon.it (Italy). The book might be nice to have for your reference.
