Brakes for daily driving & track use

Hello, I have 17 inch Torq Thrust II wheels and I want to upgrade the brakes on Camaro. Are the LS1 (C5) brakes with some good pads good enough for track use?

I read on some other thread from like 20 years ago that TT II wheels will not fit the LS1 setup but has anyone tried it anyway and somehow made it work?

What about CTS-V1 brakes? Are they good enough? will they fit my wheels?

I don't really like the after market options I prefer going with OEM. What do you guys recommend?

Also can I keep my stock 3rd gen brake master cylinder with the booster?

Thank you!

I don't know fitment with your wheels, but C5 Corvette brakes are great for hobby car. Most people won't overdrive those brakes but if you do then you can upgrade later.

define track use first.
is your car all stock?
what speeds are you thinking you will be hitting in the straights?

from what i have seen over the years is many upgrade parts because the guy standing next to them did.
not many people actually ever need the upgrades made, its just the cool factor.

Re: Brakes for daily driving & track use

I went with the 4th gen LS1 style brake on mine up front (already did an early LT1 disk brake rear end). There are multiple ways and price point to do this swap. The cheapest would be to go to a junkyard and pull the parts uou want, fab your own bracket and have your stock rotors turned for cheap. Or buy a compete kit somewhere. I purchased the turned down hubs and brackets from bigbrakeupgrade.com and used a complete podercoated powerstop caliper, rotor and pads package from rockauto. The scariest part is hacking up your stock spindle for the new caliper bracket. The upgraded rotor diameter and now dual piston calipers do make a signifgant difference over the stock brakes. I would for sure recommend the upgrade even if not for the occasional track day or some spirited driving. Having the peace of mind that you have better brakes is worth it.

Good pads + Good fluid + good driving = it's amazing what a given brake set up CAN do.

Having said that, I did up grade the brakes on my '92 C4 from base brakes to C5 and have done many-a-track day w/zero issues. I hit 120 on UMC's front, ~115 on the back, in to a 180 hairpin, and about 100-105 on the east side straight. No problems at all. That set up with good fluid, HP Plus pads and my driving has proven to be bullet proof for 300hp in a 3200 lb car.
