Re: ONE OWNER 1986 FIREBIRD S/E

love it. Had a matchbox model of a 1982 SE in a similar paint scheme; the quintessential firebird...

interesting options. No power windows but with the high end stereo (gain slider on dash)

I’ve never seen an overhead console on a V6. Interesting indeed.

Re: ONE OWNER 1986 FIREBIRD S/E

According to the 1986 Pontiac product book, the roof console was standard on the S/E along with the sub-woofer controls. But in the radio section, just like the window sticker shows, it states the AM radio was standard. And you could only get the sub-woofer controls with the optional stereo radios which were optional on the S/E.

She's a real beaut, Clark. Right up until that crapwagon 6'er. All the little details that make it unique, are awesome... But man, that 2.8 is a total deal breaker. Needs an LS1 swap.

Re: ONE OWNER 1986 FIREBIRD S/E

That is a really good looking car with the GTA lookin' hood . Did anyone notice that they also came with the smooth locking gas lid without the thumb hole that other third gens have?

S/E hood, actually... No extractor vents at the back.

The S/E was kind of a fully loaded base model, the locking gas door, T/A style tail lights with S/E specific center section, overhead console, leather appointments package, decals and emblems, etc were all basic upgrades for the option package.

Neat cars, but when there were Formulas, and GTAs coming next year, you can understand why the model was culled from the herd.

Your right about those extractor vents on each side at the back of the hood. I had to go to my garage and take a look. I had forgot about those vents being on my GTA Notchback's hood.

I have found 2 of those SE models over the years in the wrecking yard and got the smooth locking gas door and overhead consoles off of both. I plan to put one on a Camaros someday.

Re: ONE OWNER 1986 FIREBIRD S/E

Gorgeous survivor. Missing a couple of options to make it perfect (if I had ordered it new in 1986): rear locking cover, power windows and mirrors, V8, and I think you could get these with the electronic cluster but don't quote me.

Re: ONE OWNER 1986 FIREBIRD S/E

I have a S/E brake light center on my car. I have a OEM one, and I made one. Really easy to make just gotta kill a 82-84 center to do it. Really wish I could get ahold of a S/E hood. One of the few parts I have never owned.

Re: ONE OWNER 1986 FIREBIRD S/E

Cool find !! Pretty rare to find a CLEAN survivor S/E these days !!! Most early year "Base" cars have been crushed/trashed by now since they were not a trans am or Formula

Re: ONE OWNER 1986 FIREBIRD S/E

A 2.8L is always trash. It's just the way it is. A proper V8 swap would do wonders for this car's appeal.

Re: ONE OWNER 1986 FIREBIRD S/E

I'm throwing my wrench into this discussion again and say no V8 but a turbo 3.8 and keep the 2.8 in storage.
