Re: Rochester Quadrajet to Holley Sniper 2 conversion
So, ill admit this isn't exactly what you were looking for. I have an 82 TA. I have used 2 different edelbrock pro flow systems over the last 25 years and they have worked great. I i have 3 friends w pro flow systems and they have been really happy w them. I have a friend w an lg4 86 camaro that he swapped a holley sniper throttle body system on to and he hated it. Holley replaced the ecm once and then he still had issues. He returned it and put a carb on it. This guy is a mechanic and knows his stuff. I have a Fitech efi go 600 on my bronco that is came with. Its garbage. The design is poor, the interface is crap. Ill likely pull it off and put an edelbrock pro flow on it. Ive talked w a couple of other people w issues w the tbi style systems. The interface/tuning of the pro flow stuff is easy.
Re: Rochester Quadrajet to Holley Sniper 2 conversion
It was with the sniper 2. And 2 other people also had the same system and weren't happy w it. The guys that tuned my trans am said the edelbrock and holley systems were pretty even as far as tuning and FI tech really needed to step it up. One of these guys used to work for fitech for years. Surprisingly, not a lot of people go to multi port setups. They seem to work better. I had an original pro flow 1 in 2002 on my trans am w a zz4. It worked great till 2019 and the ecm got wet. Then I installed a pro flow XT w the pro flow 4 software. Its awesome. I liked the 2002 proflow more than the fitech on my bronco. A guy i know who owns a custom shop and just does high end builds really dislikes the tbi style efi and sees lots of issues w them. Hes much happier w the multi port style systems. I think people feel like the tbi style ones are less money and they can pop on an old school intake and be done. But the pro flows come w a distributor designed for the system, port fuel manifold and specific recommendations for parts. When i upgraded to a forced induction there were some parts I needed to change. Edelbrock support was great. I was both edelbrock part numbers and GM part numbers that would work for forced induction. Most of the sensors are GM parts and easily sourced.
i do know a guy that owns a speed shop and does lots of installs. He's pretty happy w the sniper 2 and fitech. Maybe it comes down to knowing your way around a system. All I know is what I've seen/heard.
Re: Rochester Quadrajet to Holley Sniper 2 conversion
Bummer I was hoping it was a Sniper 1. I appreciate all your advice, it is helpful. I had heard that most of the issues from the Sniper 1 were fixed in the Sniper 2 but there's probably going to be some issues with any setup on this car. I just have a stock 305 so not needing much just tired of adjusting this old Rochester and was wanting to upgrade to EFI. The Sniper seemed like a good migration for me. I may be where you are in a few years and do an LS swap but I'm not quite there yet. You have a nice setup by the way. I just need to this thing running reliable and dependable. It sat in a barn for 35 years. I guess another option is another carburetor. Or I try the Sniper 2 and I can always go back to another carb if I have issues. I'm sure I'll fight it until I get too tired of it and do a swap haha.
