H-town third genners--monthly meetings?

Having read a few of the NTTGA threads, where they get together once a month, I have talked to a few of the local Houston third genners about having a monthly informal get together, and they all seemed interested. It doesn't have to be anything as involved as our gathering like we have coming up this weekend (Dec 27th--Bear Creek Park--pavillion #1--2PM to 6 PM). It could/should be just an informal gathering. If U can make it--cool--if not--next time! To be fair to everyone the location could be revolved around to different sites . One month at Sam's Club, the next month at the Woodlands show, the next month at one of the Clear Lake sites (or some where down in that part of town) or WHATEVER/WHEREVER. And yes Mike, we can even have one of the monthly meetings in Tomball! WE COULD EVEN HAVE SOME OF THEM (OR ALL OF THEM) AT SOME OF THE LOCAL DRAG STRIPS, AND STILL ROTATE THEM AROUND. AT the moment, just wondring if there would be any interest in something like this?

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Sounds great to me. I enjoy and benefit from seeing what others have done to their cars. I wouldn't mind racing a few of them too. When I have gone racing and do test and tune, you might be racing a dragster or an Expedition, you don't know, If you have some buddies, you can line up next to each other in the staging lanes. It makes it a lot more interesting racing cars about the same level. The only thing more fun is racing (and beating) Mustangs. ja!

That sounds like a great idea. It is too long to wait for Decembeer to roll around.

Neil350 can you give me the locations of the meetings at Sam's and the Woodlands. Street address or Highways that they are located off of.

Well, I'm a regular at Sam's already. I drive a white 89 IROC with a bra--usually park down on the end closest to the buildings. Hang out with Barry (don't hold that against me!--LOL)

Gonna be awhile before I take the car out again.

Work in progress:

replacing header and collector gaskets
installing Sub-Frame connectors
installing and wiring up AFR gauge and A-pillar pod
under body cleaning
bead blasting and powder coating rims
replacing or restoring carpet (depends how good the resto comes out)
front end allignment
other misc.... stuff

So, maybe late February, I'll take it out again, maybe to Sam's show.

This is also going to push back Dyno'ing the car to February.

Oh well, she's a garage queen I guess!

I would love to meet up every once in a while, I just have to get my new motor in first. I am still kicking myself for not having it in intime for the big gathering. How did that go by the way?

The last few weeks, the turnout at Sam's Cub (I-10 @ Hwy.-6) parking lot has been pretty poor because of bad weather. The weather forecast is pretty good for tomorrow. Let's see if we can get some cars out there this week! Get all your car freak friends regardless of what they drive (even Mustangs!) and cruise to Sam's.

R U UP 4 IT???

Zap's right. The quantity of cars there has been poor. But the QUALITY has been terrific!!! Those of you that left early really missed out.

I'll be bak in H-Town next Monday, I'll be living in Channelview and going to San Jac Central in Stinkadena. I don't know Houston very well at all. If there's anyone near Channelview that I could follow to and back from the Sam's Club, I'd be up for it.

OK, there does seem to be enough interest in this that we should persue this! Remember, this is just an informal gathering--no fancy planning like our recent annual event. Just a few third gen members getting together and hanging out for a little while.

I still think the idea of having it a different place/different part of the city each month is a good idea, so different people will show up when it is in their area--although I personally will probably drive to wherever for all of them.

Any body have any suggestions of when and where for the first one. I think the idea that was suggested, that we maybe have it at other existing car shows, or at one of the local dragstrips, is good idea, but whatevr works!

Now it's your turn--WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Wherever yall plan to go, i'll try to be there. I might not be free on Saturdays, so a Sunday afternoon would be better for me.

I will start planning the 2nd annual Summer gathering arround the end of March ~ beginning of April sometime.

Summer gathering will probably be held end of June ~ middle of July (depending on what works best for everyone).

Hopefully we'll have at least as big of a turnout that we had in December! Maybe this year, we'll have it at a track, if not then maybe will meet up at Tomball college again like the 1st annual Summer gathering. But I wont start that thread until march-april.

As far as monthly meetings go, my car will be down for the next couple of months (more upgrades!!!)

I'll try to catch the march or april monthly meeting though if I have the car ready by then.

But, you guys are more than welcome to meet up with me if you need anything done. PM me though if you need to hookup with me for car related work.

Mike

i have a very dark green RS. it is usually dirty too... i also go to san jac for english and economics. im still in highschool though.

in fact, i think i saw your car this morning (thursday morning) turning off of center onto spencer. the car had the knight rider light up front, and did a nice power slide onto spencer

was that you??

That was probably me! The power slide wasn't because of the massive power coming out of the stock LO3 either. My tires are crap. You know anyone else in this area with thirdgens? I met a guy today with a maroon GTA at McD's!

Hell yes dude! I saw your car, but I didn't realize it was someone from the board till I read this. I park by the auto tech buildings from 10ish to 4:30-5ish. There's also a guy in my program with an '02 black Z28 with Borla exhaust. He run's 12.09, so watch out! , but he's cool though.

Well, since nobody has made any suggestions for a time or place for the first informal get together, I go ahead and throw one out.

How about if we meet at Houston Motorsports Park and check out their new 1/8 mile dragstrip. Playday 2 is Sat--1/24/04. You do not have to race--but can if u want to. They open at 9 AM and go until ? I was going to say maybe around noon, but I know that many have to work, or have commitments on Sat, so maybe later in the afternoon? If you have an interest in meeting and hanging out for a while, please post what would be a good time for U!

i think i know where that's at... i dont get to class until 6:30 though, so you would already be gone by then. There is a guy here at work with a black '02 running 10.9's and the car is still street legal those LS1 engines are amazing!

lol, ok.

I'll try to plan it for the beginning - middle of June (what ever will work better for everyone). But I wont start the summer gathering '02 planning for another couple of months yet.

I should have several more goodies on the car by then. Maybe my tax return will be enough to get the Moser 12 bolt that I've been drooling over!
