My parent's will be heading out there this week or weekend to get photos and information. But I think we have a winner from what I've found so far.
So here's my thoughts:
WHEN: Saturday, 17 June.
-Meet at park at 3:00 PM
-Food starts at 4:00 PM
-Cleanup/Leave for track at 5:30-6:00 PM
WHERE: Bay Street Park, Texas City
-Take I-45 south to Highway 1764, turn east. Stay on 1764 till you reach the park
Craig, it's about 30 miles from Texas City to HRP.

Has anybody checked the schedule at HRP for that day to see if they have anything special going on that would prevent us from hanging out there Sat night?
no, I meant Friday the 17th. Friday and Sunday are street nights at HRP. That Saturday night is Texas Outlaws, so we could go and watch, but no racing for us.
Ok so I'm not real sure what I was thinking when I made up that post. If we want to do 1/4 mile, its going to have to be Friday night, or the previous Sunday, because they are closed Sunday the 19th for Father's Day. The other option would be to do it Saturday, and go to HMP to race, but I'd much rather do 1/4 mile.

I would ,too, but Friday is a work day for most everyone, and no one would show up until evening, and then the traffic getting there......you get what I'm sayin'? I'd rather go to Baytown, too, but if we wanna race, looks like HMP. I stil think it's a good idea. Guess we need to decide if we want to race or watch. Are we men or are we mice?

May I suggest somebody contact the track and see if it would or would not, and not assume we can't run!

A meet on Sat in Texas City at location/time decided on, and then drive to HMP? I don't think so! Seems kinda stupid to drive that far! Since the greater majority of people on this board live on the opposite side of town from where the summer meet location is, U are asking them to drive across town to the meet (which I still think the location is very cool), and then to drive across town again to HMP. I'm don't think very many will do that! (including me!!!)
I think we really need to check out the situation at HRP before we assume that we can not run at HRP! The drive to HRP is far enough as it is--let's use a little common sense here and not make this any harder than it has to be!
I just sent an e-mail to HRP asking about schedule for that night--Sat 18th--and if there will be test n tune runs allowed that night . I will post as soon as I hear back.
If we ned to know quicker, Maybe somebody should call and find out?

In their own info from their website "Test and Tune 15.00"--so why does this mean we can't run at HRP if we want?
Even if U don't want to make any passes for whatever (not everybody in the Houston TGO is into drag racing) there will definately be a GOOD show worth going to the strip to watch, as well as seeing the thirden guys pair off and see who's got the stuff and who's a wannabee!
OH YEAH--That reminds me--Barry and I have a rematch due (unless you're skiiiiirred!), and I wanna see if I can beat Larry Dunlap even though he's running consistantly faster than I am. Maybe the new Comp Cam Pro Mag roller rockers will pick up my time just enough to do it?

HHMMMM.........Maybe we need to start a match race thread for the summer meet like we had for the last gathering?
DONE!
DONE!
Ok, first let me apologize for the confusion I caused, my internet has been funky the last few days so I was making hasty posts. I didn't realize there was test and tune during the ET racing and I didn't make the connection between the Outlaw racing and the oval track.
Craig, I thought about it at the time, and you're right, Friday won't work unless we had it late, and then we wouldn't get much time at the track. I keep forgetting only a few of us have summer break.
As far as HRP goes, if we still want to do that, I say we bump it up to lunch at the park at like 1:00 PM, that way we can get to HRP when the gates open, get some runs in before the racers start filling the staging lanes, and then enjoy the real racing. I don't know how it works at HRP with T&T, but I know when I went to Sealy you only got about 4 passes total if you did T&T and it was in between rounds.
So if someone else hasn't done so already, I'll give HRP a call tomorrow and try and find out about T&T and see what we've got.
If HRP is out, and we go to HMP instead, yes it would be pointless to have the meet in Texas City. I think if we go to HMP, we should have the meet in Clear Lake at the park right there on the lake. It's still only 32 miles from there to HMP, so the distance won't be too much of a concern.
Anyway, just thinking "out loud" here.

Clear Lake them HMP?
Maybe I missed something, but that sounds WAY out of the way for me. That would take at least 1 full tank for me.

Based on experiance, Test N tune is usually much better at HRP than Sealy--even after the scheduled racing starts--we should have plenty of time for our match/grudge matches if we get to track at 4/4:30--still be able to get plenty of runs throughout the night. It was not a problem when we all went in Nov.

You're right I do NOT think this location and HMP is a good combination. The cruise to HRP (Baytown 1/4 mile strip) from here is a fair distance, but it is SO EASY, it is a natural. All we have to do is get back on 146 from where we are going to meet, and drive. Good 4 lane divided road--no turns except the final turn off of 146 to the strip.
I recommend that U post a "mapblast/Yahoo/MSN , whatever, map link for the location as well as from the meet to the track and make a seperate "offical post/ thread"with a sticky that contains all the needed info.

Guys, I didn't follow this post cause I'll be back at sea when this event happens. Which is a shame, 'cause I live one block off Bay Street! That said, I took a drive on the dike today with a view towards the Summer Gathering.
First off, Bay Street Park does not have a view off the Bay. There is a 20 foot earthen seawall running along the shore, with the pavement of Skyline Drive running on top of it (which is a good T&T place during the week!). Bay Street Park does have shaded areas, along with adequate parking, but there are no pits.
Next is the First Lady Pavilion is located at the base of the dike. A covered pavilion, port-o-johns, view of the bay and Texas City Ship Channel. Fishing in the Ship Channel, or across the street in the bay. Again, no pits. There are around 16 marked parking spots, twice that if you double park (go figure!). The long wading sandbar into the bay is a couple hundred yards further down the dike.
Third is the beach area 3.8 miles down the dike. Good sand parking on the edge of the bay, this area is popular with the sailboats, catamarans, jet skis and wind surfers. Good fishing in the channel just across the street. No shade, and again no pits.
From my drive today, I recommend the First Lady Pavilion, it is first come - first served. It is a very good place to see and be seen, many folks come out there just to cruise on the dike (it's 5 miles long), there is a bait shop across the street with the usual beer/ice/soda/snacks offering. You can wade and fish in the ship channel or across the street in the bay. All of the people cruising in this area will be at relatively slow speed due to the stop sign at the base of the dike. A very good spot for recruiting, there are a lot of third gens down here.
I'll post some pics here shortly.
Oh yeah, it's usually a 45 minute drive to HRP from here, but allow an hour. Watch your speed in Seabrook and Kemah, Rudy probably knows about that.
Hey Zap, are you planning to come down here Saturday or Sunday? If Sunday, we'd be happy to hook up with you. Same for your folks TexasLT1. I ALWAYS have beer on ice when home.
And we might be able to make arrangements for you guys to use my big pit for the whoop-de-do. Give me a ring or e-mail.

This is Bay Street Park. The shaded area can be reserved, but they are divided in two (front and rear halves). If we want these, I will call and check on reservations.
In the background is the earthen seawall, running along the bay with Skyline Drive on top. You may be able to pick out a bunch of the parasailers that hang out up there. Not sure how large the image will be here.

WOW--good deal--good info--THANKS A LOT DUDE!!!
By any chance will U still be in town May 14th for the monthly at Hooters? Sure would like to meet U and shake your hand!
First Lady Pavilion sounds like the place to be (but I'm not putting this gig together--TEXAS LT1 is)--do U think it would be filled up on a Sat at 11:30?
""Hey Zap, are you planning to come down here Saturday or Sunday? If Sunday, we'd be happy to hook up with you.""
Still planning on it, but depends on last minute Mom day plans--I will definately call if we head that way! (What kind of beer?)
How big is your BBQ pit anyway? Since we are just gonna burn some dogs, I am wondering if the little hibachi we have would be the hot tip! It can burn a couple dozen hot dogs at a time!

well ****.
First off, thanks for the scouting report Dave
Definitely was not aware of the levee, that kinda sucks.
First Lady Pavilion would be perfect if it had a pit. Not sure what we're going to do about that. Think we can take our own pit? I'm sure I could convince my parents to go in our truck and bring our pit with us, just don't know if we can do that at the pavilion.
Also, if its first-come/first-serve, I've got no problem heading down there early and claiming it for us. I'll see if my parents come up with anything else this weekend also.
*One more thing, Dave if you wouldn't mind calling about reserving the pavilion at Bay Street that'd be awesome.

The pit is a New Braunfels Smoker style, with the fire box on the side. It is a bit large, two guys can lift it in and out of a truck, but is rather large for grilling dogs. Won't cool down as fast as a smaller one either, so yeah if any attendees have hibachis available that would be a better way to go.
The beer is COLD! And usually FREE! But I tend to buy Busch, the poor man's Bud. So if you prefer one of the lite beers, bring it with you!
I definitely intend on being at Hooters for the 14th, got home last Friday, so 5 more weeks off.

Going just by the pics--I'd say the "First Lady Pavillion" is hot tip--even if it is first come--first serve! Especially if it's close to the Johns (my wife's comment) as well as the bait shop where they sell junk we need--like BEER!!! We have taken over areas before--we can do it again!
We will be glad to bring the hibachi--small easy to transport, and burns all the dogs you'll ever need!
Is the pic of the beach from the dike or the actual coastal beach front?

Busch? that's the only beer I drink! I whine a lot if I go to a club that does not have Busch!
Looking forward to meeting U!

Yes,
I'll call about Bay Street in the AM.
First Lady is 1st arrival, and it is Large. Pits are allowed there, just not under the pavilion proper. I've seen it both filled and empty, sometimes just a family with kids getting out of the sun while others fish.
As far as a pit, see my previous, I have a large one just blocks away, but getting it there and back may be a problem. I won't be in town
, and the Mrs will be gone also. So right now I'll loan out my pit, but not my truck!

The pic of the beach is on the bay (north) side of the dike, looking back west towards the base of the dike and Skyline Drive.

Since the whole point of having the meet by the water/beaches ETC, it seems like the park kinda defeats this purpose.
All things considered, (IMO) I think the pavillion right on the water front is the choice!

niceCraig, I'm thinking if we roll up to the pavilion and its already been taken over, and since we're bringing our own pit anyway (whether mine or yours, we'll worry about that later) we should just head down to the beach area and have right out on the water. Looks like its groomed so shouldn't be a problem with loose sand. Don't know how others would feel about driving on the sand, but it'd definitely make for some good photos

yup kemah and seabrook are the worst places to speed...but on the weekends everybody cruises in there hot rods and stuff so as long as no one does anything wrong
its all good . Is that park off of 565 or something like that ? I think i use to pass by there all the time and would be a good place to have this meet....did someone say Busch ?

Dave, one other thing. Where is First Lady Pavilion in relation to Bay Street Park. Just wondering if I need to change the map I've got in the official thread of it its close enough everyone could figure it out.

The map is good. Just continue on Dike Road past Anchor Park as shown on the map. (the correct name, the Bay Street Park complex is quite large). That anchor in front landed there when the ship blew up in the 40's. There is a Stop sign at the top of the levee, once you breast that you will see the pavilion on the right.

Turn RIGHT on Bay Street, as posted.
Turn LEFT onto Dike Road.
Straight through the Stop Sign, First Lady Pavilion is on the right.

While having a discussion with a very good friend of mine (non-thirdgenner) about the Summer Meet, he asked if we were going to haaave a crawfish boil, and I thought hmmm........
In keeping with the theme/atmosphere of The Houston TGO Summer "Meet, Eat, and Compete" Event, what do ya'll think about having a crawfish boil. Should we, or should we not?
Does anybody have one of those portable propane powered crawfish boiling rigs?
Does anybody have experiance in actually doing it? How long does it take from start to finish before they are ready to eat?
COMMENTS?

WHAT ABOUT IT PEOPLE--DO WE WANNA INCLUDE A CRAWFISH BOIL IN THE SUMMER MEET?
We can still bring the hibachi and do some hot doggies for those who are not into mudbugs!
I'll eat 'em, my dad will, looks like you obviously will. Right now we've only got like 5 people saying they are coming to the meet, so probably once we get more people coming we'll have more that would want to eat them.
