What type of oil should I use?

my engine is about to hit 95,000 miles.

Some guy told me havoline 30w but others have told me that, that is a very bad idea.

Anyways, what do you guys think? Any suggestions?

I've heard that MAX LIFE does well with higher mileage cars.

If the engine is clean internally (no pennzoil sludge) I would stick Mobil1, Amsoil, or Castrol Syntec full synthetic oil in it.

I think OEM specs calls for 5w-30. Any good brand name oil and filter is a good choice. If your car has oil leaks, the oils that are advertised for older cars, has an agent that makes the gaskets/seals swell up to hopefullystop the leaks. Some of them also has and agent in them similar to the product called "Restore" that helps fill in the pits and scratches in the cylindar walls.

If your car does not smoke (except maybe at start up from valve seals) and does not have leaks, do not the the special oils for older cars, because the stuff that makes the seals/gaskets swell up, if U quit uing it, it will be worse than before.

If your gonna run your car hard, use a 5w-40 or 10w-40. If U can afford it, use a brand name synthetic oil such as Mobil 1--there are several to choose from. Syhthetic oils have agents that hold up better than regular oil, against all the chemicals that end up in the oil, as a bye product of the combution.

Also, I recommend an oil additive such as Z-Max (expensive) or Lucas oil stabilizer--especially if U use reg oil. Like eric305TPI said, don't use Pennzoil. I haaae always heard stories about sludge build up from a couple different brands of regular oil--Quake state used to also be like that, but I am told that they changes it some years back so that it does not do that anymore--don't know for sure. Another good reason to use synthetics and to change it often--don't give the oil a chance to build up sludge--change it often!!!

Me personally, I use Mobil 1 15w-50 and Z-max and /or Lucas. I use the Fram HP 4 racing oil filter (O'Reillys). The regular filters that the book calls for are little short ones that because of smaller filtering area don't last as long as a larger one. I think Wix makes a larger one also? Go do a search in the general engine tech board and see what some others use.

Whatever U use, what U do, change it more often than it is recommended. Don't wait until the oil on your dipstick is black. I change mine about every 1500 miles. When I see the oil on the stick STARTING to get dark, I change it.

By the way, how was your first night of cruzin the streets? Any tickets yet?

unfortunatly
The guy told me that the car had been on pennzoil 10w30 all its life. Some people told me to keep on using pennzoil since the car was already used to it. I went ahead and went with castrol 10w30, it was on sale at Autozone. and I got a fram filter TG30.

I don't run the car to hard, I only hit it from time to time.

As for the car I had a little bull**** race with a 3000gt. I was not looking for the race, I was coming from Autozone and he pulled beside me at a light. he threw a couple of revs and then pulled in front of me, I let him get his little "headstart" When the light turned green I pulled off like a bat out of hell and left his *** sitting there with his dick in his hand. I don't know what happened it looked like he did;ent even try. Maybe he did'ent wanna race, or maybe I just dogged em that bad from the line that he gave up. It was funny *** **** tho. I did'ent take the car out last night, just hitched a ride with a couple of friends to a party.

Whatever happened to ARCO graphite? I had a Citation X-11 (V-6 4spd, sleeper) that I had bought new, used that oil, and that car was running and NOT burning oil with OVER 250K on the clock.
