Houston's SECOND fastest thirdgen
Im laying claim to that title for now based on posting the second fastest 1/4 mile time at the Fall Brawl (12.997) after Jay, who is still Houston's fastest thirdgen. Come on Tristan, Eric, Kevin, Barry and Zap, come and get me!!.
Actually I was surprised as everyone else that my car ran more than .4 sec faster than ever. This was due to removing the cats and installing a cutout, running smaller tires on the rear, cooler weather, and removing the AC. I think it was equal parts cutout and cool weather.

Yeah, the weather helped a lot, I think at least 4 of us set new personal bests in our current cars, as I predicted we may. But Larry, you are definately dialed in! I don't know your other passes, but you and I paired off first, and I broke out with a personal best of 14.52 on a 14.60 dial. You toasted me on the tree (my .2623), and chased me down at the finish line. Dude, you were only .0087 off your 13.00 dial. I'm thinking you've been spending more time at the track than we know! But I'll back you on your claim for now

I took out the larry but just barely, i had to chase him and stay barely infront which was hard considering how good his car was rolling on the big end

I had to leave before the final, but was truly impressed at at the 13.008
pass. CONGRATS!!! Hopefully that will squelch some of the chest-thumping
chatter we've endured the past several mo's.
PS. I can't do anything about the turnout, but I for one, had a jolly good
time, and a Texas Size thanks to ZAP for all the hassle involved in getting
it set-up!!!

Well come on! Thats really my motivation for making this post, to spur some good natured competition and interest in racing. Im not really into chest thumping, although maybe that sounds like Mel Gibson or Michael Richards saying they are not racist.
I may have a little suprise up my sleeve by the time your car is ready
Let me know when you are ready and we can run out to Sealy and race, since we both live in the Katy area.
----------
Well true, I guess it's like saying the Cardinals are the best team in baseball because they won the "World Series". Really its kind of a limited little world. Im sure there are probably really fast thirdgens in Houston that we don't even know about. Hopefully they will read this and come out to the next meet and prove it.

I may have something to say about that!
Does that mean no cars that show up on trailers?

Well, we have let cars that show up on trailers, that are in drag strip trim (slicks on--headers open-etc) run for the "title"--if we know for a fact, they are street driven--such as yours and Jay, and Darrel (406Z)--the stipulation was that if anybody questioned the ability to be street driven, that we would go for a 10 mile ride--if it does not complete the cruise it is not legal for the "street driven" title. If it does --it is!
So far there has never been a challenge! everbody knows that the several cars that have shown up on trailers (Jay--Darrel-- can't think of anybody that has shown up on a trailer) are in fact, street legal and street driven.
----------
Well, let's see here--since we are making claims about fastest this or fastest that--how can I get in on this action. HHMMM........
How about Houston's fastest DAILY DRIVER!
As far as I know- nobody except Chris and Larry Dunlap's son--Max, AlDixie uses their car as their daily driver.
So, do I get that title?

Larry - congratulations!
glad to see you're running good. haven't been around the board much lately since I've been away to school again and haven't had my car with me. just got home yesterday and have a lot of work ahead of me on the car (rearend, t-top weatherstripping, suspension bushings, window motor, etc.)
Normally I'd be more than happy to head out to the track but I need to lay off the heavy footing for the near future. Kinda hard to pay the price of admission for lots of racing (broken parts) when its hard enough to pay for school. One of these days though I'll get back out to the track and meets with y'all.

why does he say 12.90? I am not trying to be an a hole but perhaps that is just the quickest to show up? I am really into street leagal speed and would like to claim real street @ www.hotrodgossip.com so i will atleast need to run around 7.90 1/8 mile index.

ACtually I was comparing my best time to all other time slips, which is how we decided who was Houston's fastest thirdgen the first meet as well. I much prefer awarding the "title" to the car that wins a heads up, round robin race, since anything can happen in a race.

Well, got the 383 running, pulls hard for the fact that i am still stuck with a 2.73 rear gear, i think a 3.73 or 3.90 i will be deep in the 12s, i will let you guys know what happens...
