it probably would. the heads really kill power the are small valve 305. i need some 2.02 1.60 heads and she will run good. it has tons of torque from idle but dies off quick.

Mine is a stock 5.3 with a cam and carb. Runs fantastic.
When you are ready, a PS swap will make you need go back to the older engines. Power to 7000 rpm with a cam, springs and pushrods. Induction is up to you.
