1991 Firebird project, lots of parts
Here's a weird one for ya.
My first car, purchased April 1999. It was a stock daily driver with Maaco paint, but it's seen a few upgrades. It's been fun, but not for years, as I have too many projects and not enough time. It's time for someone else to make it their own, stuff an LSX in it and make it a track day car. Or drag, drift, or show car. Anyway, the car.
1991 Firebird 3.1L auto (V8s were too pricey for jr enlisted back then)
THE GOOD
Engine & performance:
ASP underdrive pulleys
Hypertech chip
Flowmaster exhaust
ceramic coated ported intake manifold
ported heads, performance valves, springs, etc (not installed)
perf cam, Comp 272 (not installed)
Suspension:
Addco sway bars, don't remember size, but the largest diameter on the market back then
Edlebrock panhard rod and lower control arms
Suspension Techniques lowering springs
KYB shocks/struts
PST bushings all around
Chassis:
Kenny Brown subframe connectors, weld-in
" " lower chassis brace (not installed)
" " 3-point strut tower brace (not installed)
Kenny Brown stuff is rare since they got out of 3rd gens over a decade ago. Quality stuff tho.
Rear:
10 bolt built by Extreme Performance in NW OKC around 2004.
Moser forged axles
SLP posi
Strange 3.73s
TA diff cover, synthetic fluid
Brakes:
stock, but slotted rotors, new pads, lines, and aluminum drums out back.
Wheels:
American Racing Torq Thrust IIs
17"x8" polished aluminum
245/45 rubber, Pepboys cheapies
Other upgrades and included stuff:
fiberglass RA1 hood
'92 Z28 highrise wing
Olds Alero fog lights
4th gen cloth seats in excellent shape
B&M megashifter
fake Momo steering wheel
gauge bezels
Blue gauge faces, can change glow color at night
Pioneer front, Sony rear speakers, mounted but not wired
new headliner
trunk pull down parts (for right side, not installed)
Defi HUD (not installed)
Brand new starter and Optima red top
Extensive $6,000 bodywork and repaint in 2002 by Custom Concepts in OKC. Stripped & straightened, painted black, plus ghost flames on hood and about 6 feet down the sides. Invisible at some angles, but pop in the sun.
Clean title, clean carfax. Completely rust-free.
I'll even toss in a couple of f-body tuning/upgrade books, stock parts, and tools.
Gets lots of looks, and I've heard "Holy sh-t!" and "That's siiiiiick dawg!" among other amusing positive comments from drivers pulling up next to me at the light. It placed best in class in one of two car shows I entered. Corners flat. Seriously, it loves corners, comparable handling to an RX7 FD I drove.
THE BAD & THE UGLY:
3.1L, auto
Left side is dented where I hit the mirror on the garage when backing out. Local body guy said ~$300, or DIY since it would mainly just need a rubber mallet and patience. Last pic shows damage. Hard to show in pics since paint is still nice.
3.1L, auto
Tags out of date. ~$250
Faceplate is missing, so you'll need a head unit. ~$90 new
3.1L runs rough. Starts, can be driven, but it sat for years, so now it has sticky lifter making noise. Just throw in new lifters when installing the included performance heads, right? $free
3.1L, auto
Tint sucks and needs redone on side windows. Rear is perfect. ~$100?
Carpet is grey and could stand to be replaced with black to match the theme. $175 new including shipping on eBay.
A couple ways this can be completed. Spend 40 hours and install everything I'm including, throw an additional $200 in parts at it, and you have a unique reliable cruiser with about 40 hp over stock. Still mostly slow, but fun and looks neat.
Or, perfect LSx swap candidate, as the chassis, suspension, rear, and most of the exterior are already done for you. '91 V6s even got the V8 radiator. Just provide engine & transmission and you're done.
Also a great father & son learning project.
Or beat on it in ChumpCar and get some trophies.
NOT daily driver capable right now, as it needs attention in the engine and the exterior door panel. Seriously, do not buy this if you are looking for it to be your only/main commuter car. It could get there, but it needs attention first.
Not for part out, as the SFCs are welded in and the quarter panels with the flames cannot be removed from the body without cutting. It's fairly priced as I'm seriously trying to sell, but I also researched and priced it so you won't make your money back if you part it out.
$1900
No trades, cash only.
