Muffler......
Muffler......
Im new to the board. Been in and out alot lately. I run a '81 but have been thinking of playing with the '91 a bit. Just thought I would introduce myself first.........now the the question.....
I need some opinons. I have a 91 Camao RS. Was my moms daily driver. Back and forth to work a whole 2 miles everyday. It was sitting in the barn for a few years until I recently saved it. 59k miles on it. I just thought I would give you guys a bit of backround.
I just replaced the pipe that goes from the cat to the muffler(2.25"). It was rotten from the moisture of the short trips daily. It needs a new muffler but I have been holding out. Well, Its starting to sound like $hit. Too nice a car to have that crappy blown out muffler sound.
Now for the point of this whole question. What should I do? It has the "fake" dual muffler set-up that most Camaro's have. Single in dual out with 2 tail pipes.
Three options.
1. Single in single out with one tailpipe(cheap)
2. Single in dual out like the stock set up(will have to buy new tailpipes along with the muffler).
3. Should I invest in a 3" cat back setup(Motor is stock and that seems like a waste to me).
I need to do this cheap, but I dont want it to sound crappy. Im leaning toward the good old Flowmaser but would be up for something that would make the little stock 305 sound better and breathe better(and be cheaper).
Thanks guys, Jay

Get a Dynomax. It's not a 3", but that's not as important as some people make it out to be. The Dynomax is like $160. It's a cat-back system so it will replace all that stuff.
What are you plans for the car?

Its just a daily driver. Dont want to hot rod it. Thats what the '81 is for. I agreee with the 3" inch statement. That little 305 wouldnt benefit from 3" anyway. These guys that are putting the 3" on are probably hurting there little smog motors more than doing any good.
BTW whats up with the Corporal chevron if your calling yourself the Gunny? R U a Marine? Retired? Just wonderin, Im a Sgt. Active Duty in Pensacola instructing in right now.

I am a Corporal, but I just use the name Gunny Highway, to pay respects for Gunny Highway in the movie Heartbreak Ridge. He's the ideal Gunny in my book.
