any gatherings here? anyone planning a trip there this summer? been there? i am fishing cause i just heard about it and want to go. give me something and i hope its a gathering.

 

I wish I could. I would take my long weekends from Camp Lejeune to ride up there when I was stationed there.

 

I live 20 minutes from the Tail of the Dragon. It's a cool place. Lots of curves, Few guard rails, Great scenery. The north side of the highway borders the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Fontana Village is a great place to stay. Fontana Lake has 78 miles of coast line and is 39 miles long. Lots of vacation rentals avaliable. Several motels up there that cater to the motorcycle crowd. The road has been picking up so much publicity lately and the rate of accidents is so high that it now is loaded with cops, 24/7. Highway Patrol, County Deputies, Both states, you name it. Even the Park Rangers have radar. If you so much as cross the double yellow once, they pull you over. We were out there a week ago and counted 6 police vehicles in 4 miles.

I use to live in murphy and they are bad and far worse than any other cop I have encountered. They are worse if you have a out of state tag and charge people with the max fine they can. There is a road from murphy to a no name town called unaka and its got a set up alot like the dragons tail with less cops and the road is call "Hanging Dog rd" and you can make a loop by takeing joe brown back into town. I think it has more curves but in a shorter distance and has little to no room for error.

Beautiful drive and there are some nice people up there but I like my flat earth without the chance of falling to my death.
