Hey everyone, I am considering buying a 1989 Firebird soon, but one of the things that worries me is insurance... I am 18, and every quote I've looked at was at least $350 a month, which seems completely ridiculous. I kept reading here about people my age paying about that much A YEAR! Are there any Florida owners that can give me tips on getting low insurance? Should I call the companies and talk to someone, or are the online quotes fairly accurate?

Thanks in advance,
Peter

Re: Insurance???
I would look for a local company... I made the mistake at your age of going through a national chain.... I paid through the nose with State Farm.... Got a quote from 'Mr. Auto' and it was 1/4 of what State Farm was.

Its not like you're going to need full coverage, so get the state minimum and be able to afford to enjoy your car

Re: Insurance???
It depends what county you live in. Several years back my son lived in the keys he only paid he only paid 450 a year. He moved to lauderdale his insurance went to 3500 a year. He had a 91 camaro. I just priced around (trying to save money) and every company told me state farm is cheapest for young and senior drivers. This is for my rice burner daily driver. My 4 toys are under collectors that is only way I can afford to have them and drive them. I don't want to tell you how cheap that is, you will get sick. Lets say it is half of what I pay for the rice burner and that is for 4 cars. If you have family in one of the less populated countys use them as your address. Just don,t let agent know, and go with a local agent near that address.

Re: Insurance???
Thank you so much. I really want to buy this car, but I would never be able to afford 350 a month... I live in Hillsborough county in a pretty populated area that has one main road and it is under construction... I will have a look around at local companies and hopefully find something... if not, my aunt and uncle live in Apollo Beach, which isn't nearly as populated, so I can ask them. I would love to have classic car insurance, but I'm not old enough for the companies.

Re: Insurance???
I also forgot to tell you .......you will have to get a new drivers license with the new address. Thats no big deal. The insurance company will pickup different address if you don't. Just get prices first, if the savings is there get the new license then get the insurance.
